Fire truck donated
The City of Millen, with approval of Millen City Council, recently donated an old fire engine to the Moores Chapel
Volunteer Fire Department (VFD), Johnson County, after receiving a federal grant to purchase a new engine for the
Millen Fire Department. Moores Chapel relies upon donations and fundraisers to operate the station, and the donated

After several years of high unemployment among local citi
zens, job opportunities are coming to Millen and Jenkins
County. Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) will be
gin posting available jobs at the Jenkins Correctional Center
Tuesday, Oct. 25. Job positions will be posted online at http:/
/www.ccajob.com.
Warden Ralph Kemp said that the main thing he wanted to
stress is that all job applications must be completed online.
Applicants should click “search careers” and choose "Millen.
GA” for location to learn more about the vacancies. Require
ments. training and other information concerning each posi
tion will be posted in the job descriptions. The process takes
about an hour to complete.
Warden Kemp explained that CCA was currently working
on a schedule for the posting of the job positions and that most
of those who secure jobs could expect to begin working with
CCA in late December or early January. Hiring would con
tinue through April 2012, he said.
Cheryl Hollinshead, CCA recruiter, noted that a CCA repre
sentative, with information on how to fill out an application,
benefits and the employment process, would be at the local
Georgia Department of Labor office on Cotton Avenue, Tues
day, Oct. 25, and at the Jenkins County Family Enrichment
Center, Barney Avenue, on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
CCA broke ground on the Jenkins Correctional Center in
December 2010 and expects to start taking inmates on March
8, 2012. It is expected to provide approximately 200 full time
careers in security, health, services, education, management
and other areas with an estimated annual payroll of $8 million
in salaries in benefits.
