Extension 4-H Extension Associate, am Georgia 4-H. And that's what
we're celebrating this year during Georgia 4-H Week, which will be
held Ocl, 7-13, We're celebrating people all across the state who
have had their lives bettered - and changed - through the 4-H
program.
I am Georgia 4-H!
You see, 4-H is mo is than just a dub. It's students and adult volunteers helping
□ al in their rnmmunrlies tintf becoming better citizens in their lawns and counties.
4-H'ers lend a hand, whether it's through community service like building
birdhouses lot our local garden club or collecting plastic bugs lo make mats for
the homeless. They gain mastery through projects and programs end learn mure
about Georgia ana the wonders our stole holds
Georgia 4-H gives students the opportunity to find on interest, stimulate their
learning with hands-on activities, gam public speaking skills and moke friends who
work to better their dubs, their comm unilies,, iheir country and their world.
In Jenkins Counly, our 4-H activities this year included District Project Achievement
(DPA), Summer Activities, Summer Como, Slots Council, Slate Congress,
[iftercdnH)l activities, fair mini booths, Cectilied Teen Leader Workshops and so
many more activities Ihul 4-H ers participated in throughout the year.
Wore than SOD active 4-H members from Slh grode through 12fh grade ore
moiled in Jenkins County 4-H. We meet with 4-H members in dubs m school
oflenched ond our special Greek Club for adive 9 12th grode 4-H r ers called
Sigma lambda Chi.
in 2012, more than 170,000 students participated in Georgia 4-H programs.
Besides projects nnd competitions, members con go to comps and events nil ovbt
the slate and nation. Special UGA foolbdl ond basketba I doys, comps ot the
beach, mountains and tily and even Irins to Washington, D,C, offer exciting ways
for our students lo learn while having fan.
Jenkins County 4 H'ers help the lommunily, hut ihey also need help from the
community. They need support through funding, volunteers ond guidance in their
prajec! areas.
