Millen man arrested
in Emanuel County
armed robbery
By Deborah Bennett
Millen News editor
A Millen man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges in connec
tion with an armed robbery at Johnson’s Package Shop in Garfield on Sept. 19th.
Floyd Brinson III, 24, of Millen is currently being held without bond in
Emanuel County on two counts of Armed Robbery, two counts of Aggravated
Assault, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon and Possession of Firearms
During the Commission of a Felony.
A press release from the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office states that at ap
proximately 7 p.m. on Sept. 19th deputies with the Sheriff’s Office responded
to a 911 report of an armed robbery at the package shop. The caller gave infor
mation that a black male had entered the store and held the clerks at gunpoint
while demanding money. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle shortly
before the first deputy arrived at the package shop.
While responding in the area, another Sheriff’s deputy spotted a vehicle
matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle at a convenience store in Twin
City. He attempted to perform a traffic stop as the vehicle left the convenience
store. The driver of the vehicle sped away and a pursuit began that lasted for
miles. The chase eventually came to a conclusion when the suspect rammed
into the deputy’s patrol car and fled into a wooded area on foot.
Evidence significant to the crime was removed from the vehicle, including
the handgun believed to have been used by the suspect.
A perimeter was established around the wooded area by law enforcement
and the suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Emanuel County
Sheriff’s Detention Center without additional incident.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections website, Brinson was
convicted in Jenkins County in July 2012 for a 2008 Burglary. He was sentenced
to five years but was released from Hancock State Prison on Aug. 5, 2014, a
year earlier than his maximum possible release date.
Emanuel County Sheriff J. Tyson Stephens is asking that anyone with infor
mation helpful to this case call the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at
(478) 237-6360.
After five months of preparation, Ml Metals has started production and just shipped out their first load of aluminum extru
sion to a customer in northern Florida. They’ve already begun work on their next order with more orders coming in. As
work load increases, additional employees will be brought in and multiple shifts will begin. The next phase for Ml Metals
will be getting their paint line up and running once all of the required permits are finalized. (Photo contributed)
