The Jenkins County High
School Girls’ basketball team
took to the court on Friday
night at home against the
Metter Tigers. The girls’ team
came into the game with a
5-4 overall record, and a 4-1
regional record. In addition
they had won two straight, and
with newly added regional op
ponent Metter coming to town,
they were looking for another
big win.
The game was a back-and-
forth affair through much of
the game. Even though the
game was close, throughout
the game the lead was held by
the Lady War Eagles most of
the whole game. The first half
was a defensive battle which
was reflected in the low score
as the ladies went to the locker
room, the score at the half was
19-13.
As the second half began,
the game tightened a little
more. Metter was able to inch
closer to the War Eagles. At
the end of the third quarter the
score was 27-23. Even though
Metter was inching closer, it
was freshman Sha’Nya Lake
who was starting to heat up
offensively.
She scored 11 of the teams
12 third quarter points, this
included three 3-point bas
kets made. The hot streak
for Lake continued into the

fourth quarter adding another
9 points. With Lake’s offensive
performance and a strong team
defensive effort, the Lady War
Eagles pulled out and won 38-
31. With this win, the Lady War
Eagles are now in second place
in region 3.
Scoring for the Lady War
Eagles was Sha’Nya Lake (23),
Jashlyn Allen (6), Nakhia Ev
ans (5), Neveah Campbell (2),
and Konstance Langston (2).
Immediately following the
girls’ game, the War Eagle
Boys would take the floor
against Metter. This was an
other close game, filled with
excited and excellent game
play. The boys’ team has had
a tough year so far as they are
amid a rebuilding season. The
team came into the game 1-6
and hungry for a win.
The game was close from the
start and the War Eagles looked
like a different team than what
took the floor in December dur
ing the first game. Coach Sweet
has the team coming together
and playing a tough style of
basketball.
As the game went back and
forth through three quarters,
it would be the Metter Tigers
who would finally take hold
of the game for good late in
the fourth quarter. Some big
shots and forced turnovers al-
