Obituaries
Kathryn H. Gay
Kathryn Harrington Gay of Garfield, Georgia, went to be
with her Lord and Savior on August 16, 2021. She passed away
peacefully at her daughter’s home in Sylvania, Georgia, after a
short illness.
She was born on April 12, 1927, in Collingston, LA, was a
retired teacher after serving ECI and Buckhead Academy, she
was a member of Garfield Baptist Church where she once served
as a Sunday school teacher and pianist, and was a past member
of the WMU.
Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by the love of her life and
husband of 59 years, John Harry Gay, Jr.
Survivors include her five daughters, Cynthia Gay Bragg of
Waynesboro; Nancy Gay Crawford (Carter) of Sylvania; Kathy Gay Lee (Chris) of Millen; Sarah
Jane Gay Odiome (Walter) of Blythewood, SC; and Johnna Gay Lee (Jon) of Garfield; a sister,
Claire Sutton Diffenderfer (Buddy) of Charleston, SC; a sister-in-law, Nell Pardue Gay of Savan
nah, GA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were grandsons J.J. Crawford, Ley Crawford, Clark Crawford, Tres Bragg, Cal Lee,
Kade Lee, Keller Lee, and Wes Lee.
Honorary pallbearers were students of Buckhead Academy.
Graveside services were at 11:00 am Thursday, August 19,2021 at Hebron Cemetery in Garfield
with Revs. Bob Conley and Franklin Sasser officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Garfield Baptist Church, P.O. Box 175, Garfield
GA 30425, or Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 301 Friendship Church Road,
Twin City, GA 30471.

Robbie Coleman
Robbie Coleman, 92, entered into rest on August 16,2021 after
an extended illness. She had been a resident of Eagle Health and
Rehabilitation since January 2021.
She was a member of Millen Baptist Church and member/
Treasurer of the Reva Gay Sunday School Class.
Robbie was bom in Telfair County on November 1, 1928 to
James Monroe and Dora Bridges Dixon. She married Eugene
Simmons August 2, 1947. They moved to the Millen area in the
1950’s, and she considered Millen her home. She retired from
Jockey International in 1991 where she had worked as a Quality
Control Supervisor. She was an avid baseball fan, especially of
the Atlanta Braves, and loved cross-stitching.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Simmons; son, Charles Larry
Simmons; daughter-in-law, Diane Morris Simmons; husband, Neal Coleman; sisters, Dora Lee
Dubberly and Jewel Dixon; and son-in-law, Mark Posey.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Mays (Glen) and Sunny Posey; Stepsons, Donald Wayne
Coleman (Wanda) and Stan Coleman; Grandchildren, Chalane Perryman (James), Chad Simmons
(Stephanie), Cindy Anderson (Todd), Daniel Posey, Vanessa Reeves (Paul), Penny Faircloth
(Danny), Billie Stout (Cory), Chris Coleman, Sandy Dixon (Aaron), Brandon Coleman (Joanna),
and Sky Coleman; numerous great grandchildren; and Robert Reynolds, a special family friend
and caregiver.
A graveside service was held at 2pm Saturday, August 21 st, at Millen Cemetery with Rev. Brad
Asbury officiating. Visitation was at the gravesite after the service.

tion Fund, 212 N. Gray Street, Millen, GA 30442.
Martha “Marty” Durham
Martha "Marty" Wycliffe Hendry Durham, 82, of Statesboro,
GA entered into rest on Wednesday, August 18th 2021.
Marty was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on February 14th,
1939 to the late George and Katherine Hendry. She was an active
member of Pitman Park United Methodist church in Statesboro,
GA. She was a retired educator who spent her working years as
a teacher and guidance counselor in the Jenkins County Public
School system. Marty enjoyed spending time with her husband
George and was an active part of his ministry. Marty had a love for
traveling, Atlanta Braves baseball, Kentucky Wildcats basketball
and she was passionate about animals - most importantly her
two poodles, Brooke and Misty Blue, whom Marty and George
rescued from the Georgia Poodle Rescue in Alpharetta, GA.
Mrs. Durham was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother Larry Hendry, and her grandson
Jeffery Alsup Jr.
Marty is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Reverend George Durham; her children,
daughters Kim Alsup (Jeff), Sheryl Dudley (Andy), Melissa Pitts (Terry), Mary Woodard (David),
and Angela Durham (Lorien) and sons Johnny Bargeron and Joseph Durham; her siblings, Myma
Dantic (Jimmy) and Alex Hendry; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren whom she loved
dearly and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held in her honor at 2pm on Sunday, August 22nd, at Millen Cemetery
with Reverend Bill Bagwell presiding.

Wesley “WA” Hooks
Mr. Wesley Allen “WA” Hooks, 90, died Thursday, August 19,
2021 at AU Medical Center.
He was born in Jenkins County, a retired maintenance worker
for Jockey International, a member and deacon of Elam Baptist
Church where he attended the Men’s Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Caitlyn
Baggett.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 23, 2021 at 2:00
pm at Elam Baptist Church with Rev. Jody Bryant officiating.
Burial followed in the Elam Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hooks; 2 sons, Wesley
Hooks (Anna) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Stewart Hooks (Kay) of
Midville; 3 daughters, Linda Baggett (Ricky) of Millen, Brenda
Gay (Ben) of Garfield and Pam Johnson (Trai) of Twin City; a brother, Samuel Hooks of Twin
City; and 6 grandchildren.
Active Pallbearers were Chris Akridge, Travis Akridge, EdAkridge, Eric Simms, Trai Johnson,
Evan Johnson, Mitchell Johnson, and Rayburn Johnson.
Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Elam Men’s Sunday School Class.
