Normally, choosing a gift for
someone can be difficult to do, es
pecially wondering if the person
will like the gift or not. A simple
gift of a plant or a mystery potted
bulb is always a good choice to
give, it can add a little mystery
and intrigue after the gift giving.
During the holiday season, you
will find a multitude of packaged
bulb kits for sale as gifts. These
kits are good, but you can make
your own kit for a gift yourself.
Remember, most of these types of
gifts normally will only produce
flowers one time, unless you care
for the bulb once it blooms.
When purchasing a kit or a bulb
for a gift, always look at the bulb
and make sure it has not already
grown and bloomed in the box.
Amaryllis are always a favor
ite gift for the person who has
everything and needs a little
blooming cheer. Paper Whites
are a very fragrant choice, these
little blooms will freshen up any
room and make it smell like a
spring day. Tulips and daffodils
are spring time favorites. A ffin
choice would be the Alliums or
Fritillaria, simply because they
are unusual and different and will
be a topic of much discussion.
Select a firm bulb, similar to an
onion in texture to purchase. If
you are creating your own unique
gift, select a clay pot or ceramic
pot for the bulb. Make sure it has
a drainage hole in it.
Once you plant the bulb in the
pot, store it in a very cool place
or in the bottom of the refrigera
tor until you are ready to gift it.
Since it is a potted gift, you can
simply use a couple of sheets of
tissue paper and a gift bag and
your wrapping is done.. .super
easy. As always, join your local
garden club for a wealth of local
information and fellowship.

From now until December 31st, Bethel AME Millen is holding a
coat drive to help someone stay warm this winter. “You don’t neces
sarily have to be homeless to have a problem staying warm during
the colder months,” Rev. Jerlyn Hudson remarks, “this coat drive is
for our aging seniors as well as our homeless. If you have a need,
we ask you to make us aware.”
The outreach, “Cold Weather, Warm Hearts” clothing drive was started last year as a way to give back to the community. The group
will be available at the St. Nicholas Toy Distribution on Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m at the Ag. Center across from the school.
“If you need a coat, please contact the church at 706-750-2985,” Rev. Hudson urges. “We will also be available to pick up the coats.
Just give us a call at the same number.”
