The annual Heritage Festival will
be held at Magnolia Springs Sat
urday. Activities will include Civil
War encampment with re-enactors,
blacksmith exhibit and demonstra
tion.

of Mrs. Ellen Hopson Douglas.

demonstrate financial need.
Robert Gray of Evans was killed in
the 2-vehicle accident that occured
in the early morning hours of Nov.
23 on the Millen By-pass.

Nov. 27,1996
The Josiah Holland House has
recently been remodeled with funds
provided through a grant. The
house was built in 1892 and has
been used for various businesses.
From 1928-1936 it was the Millen
City Hall.
Dorothy M. Cooke has been sworn
in as a member of the BOE. She
will fill the unexpired term of Elo-
ise H. Murray.
Mike and Barbara Pike will renew
their marriage vows on the occasion
of their 50th wedding anniversary.
The ceremony will take place at the
Millen Methodist Church with a
reception to follow.
In The Headlines 50 years ago -
Dec. 2,1971
Lt. Gov. Lester Maddox will be the
guest speaker at the COC Banquet.
Due to limited seating capacity,
there will only be 200 tickets sold.
The Folklores will perform at
Buckhead Academy on December
9. Rick Dailey, Sandra Prescott, El
len Proctor, Nelson Foster and Bill
Hardee make up the folk group.
MPD Chief Cleveland Johnson is
asking all merchants to be vigilant
and leave lights on in their stores at
night during the Holiday sea
son. Doors and windows will be
checked by the Police Department.
In The Headlines 75 years ago -
Nov. 28,1946
Robert Burke has a very serious ac
cident late Monday afternoon some
six miles from Waynesboro. Mr.
Burke was forced off the road
by two automobiles and then a
truck lost control and the trailer
hit Mr. Burke’s car. Mr. Burke
has cuts and bruises to most of
his body but he is at home.
D.M. Aycock had the pleasure
of making 30-40,000 people
very thankful this holiday as
he took up turkey raising as a
hobby.

Thursday, Dec. 2: All Fired Up! Is
back at the Roxie Remley Center in
Statesboro. This Holiday Sale will
feature the artwork and handcrafted
items from local artists, Averitt
Center staff and students, Georgia
Southern art department and the
Regional Art Association. The sale
will run Thursday, Dec. 2 from 2-8
p.m., Friday, Dec. 3 from 10a.m.-8
p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10
a.m. - 2 p.m. The Roxie Remley
Center is located at 31 East Vine St.
Tuesday, Dec. 7: The City of Mil
len will hold the monthly council
meeting at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The
public is welcome to attend.
Saturday, Dec. 11: Christopher
Young Funeral Home will hold
their memorial service at 4 p.m.
at the Millen Community House.
This service is for those families
served during the year.
Monday, Dec. 13: The Jen
kins County BOE meeting will
be at 5 p.m. in the BOE office.

3-5 p.m. Come out and enjoy this annual event on Cotton Avenue. Shop,
play games, and have your picture taken with Santa! Local merchants will
be open with Christmas specials! The JCMHS art students will also have
an art show at Multitude Venue. Kids may participate in making crafts as
well.
December 9: Hometown Holiday Roadtrip and Christmas Open House
5p.m. Get in the Christmas spirit with this annual Christmas tour! Ride
around town and see the festive displays and then enjoy festivities at our
local businesses! This event is co-sponsored by The Millen Garden
Club Council. The council will judge the best displays.
