Christmas in Millen draws record crowd
-Joe Brady
Millen News Editor
“This was a record crowd for the annual event, “ says Mandy
Underwood, Jenkins County Chamber Director. Downtown Millen
was bustling like Peachtree Street in Atlanta as residents and visitors
wandered down Cotton Avenue, either shopping or being treated
to the sounds of our own JCMHS band. There were activities for
the kids such as ornament
painting and bouncy houses.
This annual event is
sponsored by area businesses
and is the prelude to the
Holiday Season in Millen.
Those buisnesses who
helped make this event
such a success are:
Triple H Plants, Jenkins
County Chamber of Commerce, Redhill
Ceramics, Little Lovely Clothing Co, Grace &
Glamour, Necoles Custom Paints and Portraits,
Olf the Tracks Boutique, School

City to test fire
hydrants
-Joe Brady
Millen News Editor
The City of Millen will be conducting
fire hydrant flow testing on Monday, Dec.
13, 2021. Testing will begin at 8 a.m. and
residents are advised this may cause rusty
water throughout the town’s water system.
Hydrant flow tests are conducted to measure
pressure and flow in the water system. Flow
testing verifies water main capabilities and
are required prior to new construction and
the installation of fire suppression systems.
Millen residents are urged to contact the Util
ity department at 478-982-6105 if they have
any questions or concerns. Residents are also
urged to refrain from washing clothes until
later in the day as discoloration may occur.

It’s that time of year again, when we
either climb the rickety stairs to the at
tic or raid the garage for our Christmas
decorations. Or maybe, like one Millen
resident, we go buy new because, “I’m
gonna win this contest if it kills me!”
That’s right folks, the annual Christmas
Decoration Contest will be held this
Saturday night from 5-9 p.m. Buddy
Pope with the Millen Garden Council,
who co-sponsored the event urges,
“everyone participating in the con
test, please have your displays lit and
operational between those hours.” This
is the list of participants in this year’s
contest. Look for the winners to be an
