War Eagles and
Regional Update
Jenkins County War Eagle and Lady War Eagle basketball is
pushing forward in their seasons. They faced off against Class
AAA Burke County on Tuesday night. The Lady War Eagles lost
that matchup 75-14. In the boys’ game, Burke County got the best
of the War Eagles winning 73-48.
On Friday night the teams faced off in their first regional matchup
taking on Bryan County. In the first game of the night, the Lady
War Eagles lost 29-23. The boys’ game was a back-and-forth
matchup most of the night with the War Eagles leading during
parts of the game. However, it would be Bryan County that would
come out on top winning 69-67.
In other regional basketball games, McIntosh County defeated
ECI 70-62, and top 10 Portal beat Screven County 82-56. In girls’
basketball, McIntosh County won over ECI 41-40, and Screven
beat Portal 49-20. Metter and Claxton have not yet played a re
gional game. Just like in football, as the season progresses, we will
keep you up to date on the regional standings and the happenings
around Class A Region 3.

Friday night, across the state of Georgia, teams were competing
in the GHSA state semifinals. Locally, Metter High School out of
Class A Region 3 was facing off at home against Brooks County.
Brooks County entered the game 10-2 and was an underdog by
most predictions. Metter has had an amazing season outscoring
their opponents by a great margin every week and entered the night
at 12-0. From the opening snap of the season, many predicted Met
ter would win the state tournament.
However, Brooks County had other plans. Brooks County was
the state runner-up in Class A last season, and they wanted to go
to Atlanta another year. On their first offensive drive of the game.
Brooks County ran for a touchdown on a long run. From that point
forward. Brooks not only controlled the game they dominated the
game. The high-powered Metter offense was stopped, only scoring
one touchdown the whole game. The defense, that has held teams
at bay all season, gave up 49 points. In the end. Brooks County
is moving on to the state championship where they will now face
off against Irwin County in a repeat of last seasons championship
game.
Thursday through Saturday this week is the Georgia High School
State Championships. Games will be played live on Georgia Public
Broadcasting, or to attend the games they will be played at Center
Parc Stadium in Atlanta, GA. The following matchups will take

Alabama Wins SEC
Championship
The hype was finally over and the SEC Championship featuring
the Georgia Bulldogs vs the Alabama Crimson Tide was finally
played. Georgia entered the game undefeated and favored to win
after what had been a dream season so far. Alabama had lost one
game this season and appeared to be not as good as they had been
in previous seasons.
However, Coach Nick Saban of the Crimson Tide had his team
championship ready. The Georgia Bulldogs also game out ready
for a championship game. According to those who were there, the
game was an electric atmosphere.
Georgia jumped out on top in the early moments of the game, but
Alabama’s offense got on a roll and never looked back. In the end,
Alabama defeated Georgia 41-24. The season is not over for the
Bulldogs as they still got a coveted spot in the College Football
Playoffs. Only the top four teams will compete in the Playoffs.
Georgia, the number 3 seed, will face off against the number 2 seed
University of Michigan. On the other side of the bracket, the num
ber 1 seed Alabama Crimson Tide will face off against the number
4 seed Cincinnati Bearcats.
