This year saw several newcom ers to the winners of the annual event. The Millen Garden Council and the Jenkins County Cham ber of Commerce sponsors the annual event and would like to thank everyone who participat ed and made this year a success. “We look forward to next year,” Mandy Underwood exclaimed. Best Traditional winner was Ma son and Danielle McBride Davis with runners up Chris and Lindsey Oglesby and Don and Lisa Burke. Best Window winner was Libby Williams with run ners up A1 and Foye Knight and Hil and Hannah Johnson. Best Commercial was new win ner The Cotton Gin with Round’s on Winthrope and Jenkins Coun ty Senior Center as runners up. Best Fantasy was Oakley Hillis and The Christmas Elves with Jer ry and Patricia McMillian as run ner up. Best Church was Oak Hill Baptist Church with Millen Unit ed Methodist Church as runner up. Best Door was Hubert and Dale Snow Reeves with Kay- ley Nicole Bolton and Will and Suzanne Brinson as runners up. Best Overall was Charles and Kathy Lindsey with Molly Edenfield, and Nick and Kim berly Atkinson as runners up. Thank you to everyone who made Millen festive for the holidays. Eighth graders Mya Abraham and Sophia Lewis signed a pledge to maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and uphold good behavior. The middle school students, if all the directives are achieved throughout their school ca reers, will receive $10k upon gradua tion to attend a college of their choice. REACH Georgia Scholarship Pro gram is the first needs-based men toring and scholarship program providing promising students the support to graduate from high school and achieve postsecondary success. REACH scholars are paired with a mentor who models positive behavior and provides the student with knowl edge, advice, guidance, and support. Sophia Lewis is pictured with her mother, Mi chelle Lewis. Sophia was presented with the REACH Scholarship. Sophia will receive $10k to the college of her choice upon graduation. Photo contributed. The Millen merchants tell us they have fully stocked shelves and are anxiously awaiting those last minute shoppers. Now is also the time to grab those good deals as the clock winds down on the shopping season. Merchants say this is the best Christmas they have seen in several years and shoppers brag that for the first time in as many years, there is a selection in Millen.
