after 18 months investigation
Joe Brady
Millen News Editor
The Millen Police Department has
shut the book on the automobile break
in cases after an 18-month investiga
tion. The rash of car break ins caused
citizens across the city to lock their
vehicles at night. The arrest stemmed
from a car break in on Lincoln Street
on June 26,2021.
Police Chief Dwayne Herrington
explains, “during the preliminary
investigation, detectives were able
to collect blood samples left behind
at the scene by the suspect.” Those
samples were sent to the state crime
lab for analysis.
Investigators received a CODIS
(combined DNA index system) match
to Willie James Mobley, 55, of Millen.
Mobley was arrested last week on an
outstanding warrant of automobile
break in. He is currently at the Jenkins
County Jail pending court action.

Your Choice Healthcare
JOE BRADY
Millen News Editor
After several months of speculation and whis
pered conversations behind closed doors as to
where Dr. Kyle Gay was going to move to and
even if he was going to remain our community
doctor, all became crystal clear last Thursday at the
official ribbon cutting of Your Choice Healthcare,
P.C. and the reveal that Dr. Gay would be joining
the practice.
Dr. Gay, who returned to his hometown after
graduation from Medical School has been the face
of Jenkins County healthcare since his grandfather,
Dr. A.P Mulkey died in 1996. Dr. Gay said in a
recent interview, “I try not to let a day pass in which
I am not thankful for the undeserved blessings I
have received, especially those of grace, family,
and health. I have also been overly blessed by many
years of faithful support from this community.”
Your Choice Healthcare, P.C. is a family medical
practice serving patients of all ages, offering both
chronic and acute care as well as women’s and
men’s health. The practice is located at 1121 Hwy
25 North, next door to Boom Boom’s Tire.
“I hope my transition to Your Choice Healthcare
will be as beneficial to our patients and community
as I am sure it will prove to be to me and my family.
Bear with us as we work out any kinks in spacing,
flow, and other such logistical considerations,”
Dr. Gay continues. Nurse practioner Julie Bird,
another long time face of local healthcare is also a
member of the group. To schedule an appointment
the medical practice may be reached by dialing
478-401-0477 or you may contact them through
their website at www.yourchoicemillen.com. The
group accepts all major forms of insurance.
Jenkins County unemployment
higher than national average
Joe Brady
Millen News Editor
With the influx of new businesses
opening in adjacent counties, it may
be difficult to imagine that we would
be talking about unemployment but
as of October, the national average
unemployment rate was at 3.7%.
However, Jenkins is one of 19 lo
cal CSRA counties that have made
the list of those counties having
higher than the national average
unemployment. Jenkins ranks 22 out
of 50 with unemployment as of Oc
tober 2022 at 3.8 %. According to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics, Jenkins
has a total labor
force of 3,145.
The national
average is 0.2%
higher than the
previous month
reported. These
rates however
are significantly
lower than the
pandemic peak
of 14.7% in
April 2020. With
predictions of a
recession ban
died about by local economists about
a potential recession in 2023, the last
economic recession in 2008 sent rates
up to 10% in October 2009.
