Fast forward to 2006; Eliza

a Bachelor of Science degree
in Early Childhood Education.
Over the next several years she
obtained a Master’s of Read

Endorsement from GSU in
2010, a Specialist of Teacher
Leadership with an ESOL
Endorsement from Valdosta
State University in 2015, and
a Gifted Endorsement from the

Elizabeth has been a teacher
for 17 years with the last seven

She lives in Millen with her
husband, Bobby, and four chil

Laney Grace. Elizabeth says
the biggest challenge with her
job is the lack of time. More
time would allow her to be able
assist every child individually
and adequately teach higher or

projects with her students and
learning what makes each of

Meet Elizabeth McFarlin.
She is a fourth grade teacher
at Jenkins County Elementary
School (JCES).
Elizabeth was born and
raised in Millen. She gradu
ated from Jenkins County
High School in 2002. Elizabeth
pursued a degree at Georgia
Southern University (GSU)
vowing she would not become
a teacher like her mother, Lau
rie Fleming. This was due to
the countless days she saw her
mother come home stressed,
exhausted, and feeling unap
preciated.
After she began attending
GSU, she felt a tug on her
heart to move to the College of
Education. Debbie Williams,
Tricia Frye, Marsha Madray
and her mother all had a hand
in inspiring this move. These
great educators showed Eliza
beth that you do not focus on
the stress, exhaustion, or the
under appreciation that comes
with the job, for that comes
with many jobs. Instead, you
focus on the difference you
can make in the life of a single
child. Cliche maybe, but for
a true educator like the ones
