Charles Summer’s Bullish Grand- Son. Hie most, variously attired of all 1li? men of splendor is a grandson ofthelafe Chails Simmer- Ha t lias clothes in apparently endless quaniilv and bewildering coior. Everything H armony, too. For :s.■ :pl, this lac-rning he was iu white flannel, wish blue silk stock ices, a bine silk lie, a blue silk hat band and a blue silk Turkish sash. Last night he wore a tailess even ing coat. Instead of a vest beware around his waist a magnificent silk sash that hung down on the side almost to Hi© knees. The ends were magnificently embroidered. Some ladies with -in eye for such things, tay tk© embroidery alone must have cost him SSO. Ho is a hardy youth and trudg es about valiantly even in the rain. His rainy day suit is & study in it self. A big souwester covers his li 'ad. His body is snugly incased in a heavy macintosh and bis legs and feet are covered with rubber. He IS ftCCOiu paniisd in all his ram bios by a magnificent mastiff that is as big as a Shetland pony and cost, it is said, $5,000. Ho is mar ried and his wife has a fortune. He, himself is comfort nbly fixed also. Clothes seem to be his only extrav agance.—[Spring Lake Cor. in Ha. Press. Acres.-; iSouik America. Th® Deutsche Bauzeitung gives 6omo particulars with regard to the aew railroad which is to cross the South American continent, from the Atlantic ocean at Buenos Ayres fo the Pacific at Valparaiso. The greater part of the road has al ready been built, but tiro moun tain section, about 150 miles long, between Mendoza, on the side of the Argentine republic, and Santa Rosa, oa the Obits side, still re mains to be completed. At Men doza the elevation of th© present road above the ter is about 2,500 feat, but in a leng.h of 124 miles the new lines rscends to a height of nearly 10,000 feet. The sum mit is formed by a tunned about 7 miles long, from which a descent of 7,000 feet, in length of *32 miles, leads to Santa Rosa, where conue; lion is in ado with the existing road t <5 the line will be finished by the end ot 1890, with the exception of th® tunnel, which will take two years longer. During the construction of the tunnel, however, th® road will be open for traffic, passengers and goods being transferred over the mountain. In ■ tiie Seminole war he once went without food for four (lays and nights, and at Iho end of the time took Billy Bowlegs, who had caught him in the swamps, by ills nape of the nock and threw him a distance ef ten foat. The savage had an old bayonet pointed at. his Heart at the time. Another time, when surrounded by Indians, ho cleaved his way threugh them with a sword, aud when their arrows had him weak ened and almost helpless by less of blood, he made a final rush, and, seizing eraa savage, hurled him amount another with s-uco fo.ee tnai flotb were disabled. By th® bye, Meissonier is mar ried again—bis wife having died soma two years ago. Sh® was re markahly plain, not to say ugly, liais jusf 7-1, and is famed for be ing the most ill tempered man ini Europe, with the possible excap-1 '.ion ot Prince Bismarck. Nor is lie I pleasing to look up®n, as lie lias the singular defect of possessing a •massively proportioned head and torso, while his legs are shorter and thinner than those of a well made boy of 12. His head, with its full, long gray beard and profuse gray locks, is extremely picturesque.
