Memphis, Tena., sept. 30.—Char-’ les Lacy, a well known liveryman o' this city, was shot and killed at Dex ter, last night by a E*gro named B.IJ swift. A few days ago swift stole a mule from John Farrable, a farmer livin; near Dex'er, and brought it to Memphis, where ho effected a trade with Lacy. Yesterday Farrable ap pearad and claimed the mule. La cr swore out a warrant lor swift’s arrest and in oompany with Farrable droye oat to tbethief’s house, swift was ready lor them and as Lacy opened the door, shot him dead. The murderer escaped.
