This garment-fever is fast gaining ground with those of the “optimate” standing. The yarn shirt sprung into ex istence through the engineer, fire man, brakesman, and other profes sions of the lower grade, who wear them through cheapness and lazi ness io exchange garments. It will be remembered last win ter a congressman undertook to in troduce Ibis ‘dusty” garment in the chambers, but tho members of more refined judgment, hissed and jeered the “foppish” congressman out of the attempt. He went to his room Pnnoralized and doffed the yarn shirt and donned the white and boiled shirk” But as he went back some of Hie members took up the old Latin phrase:—O lempora! O mores! We don’t beg people to fake the Journal. Its \bw subscription of 50 cents is not 1 cent, an issue, and wFo can expect you to send a whole year to any address, the Journal on tho credit, list. The truth is, you don't want a piper that you are not willing to pay the low price of 50 cents *‘or iu advance. Therefore the Journal will not intrude on this kind of subscribers after next week. It will overhaul its books next week and visit those who have shown they want the paper. For the time they have taken the Journal they will find their ac counts with postmasters. During the holidays w intend given the county a thorough canvas. When we first came here we violated the rules of journalism in not doing it. And it came about in this way; “When we left Auburn, Ala,, ®ur intentions were te sturt a paper at \Vatkinsville, Oconee county, anil that placo had been recommended to us by Col Walker, Auburn, but he hadn’t been in Watkinsvill* in several years, and we didn’t ask for letters of introduction to any one in Watkinsville. Whan wo came to Watkinsville we found lhe Ocar.ee Enterprise had been run ning there over a year. This, of course, disarranged 6ur intentions. But Col. Johnson, the editor, cited Banks as the only county close to a railroad, he knew that didn’t have a paper. And this is the way we cniie to come into Banks.” G'onunuiticuted, Drove Level. A patient was placed tindar the influence of chloro orm, it*. order to bo subjected to a most, painful operation. At the first incision, however, the man, who was usually etrong, became couseioue. Crazy with pain, he tore the unite from the hand of the oporat ing surgeon, and despite the presence of several friends be plunged it in an instant into the hearts of Prof. Nagout and a young man who was acting as witness. The doube murderer was taken into the tenure room and bound. Recognizing the fact that a„ naicotia could intiuence him, the operation was performed without its use. He will probably recover. The interest in his trial, which will probably take place til the near future, lies in the defense that he commute! the double crime in a fit ot tampoiary insanity, caused by the extreme pain.
