But bis Memory Lives—Though his .Spirit lias Taken Flight to That 1 Invisible Be a ond—From Whence None Return. Every Cradle Asks Whence and Every Grave Whither. Deug Esf Qui Regit Omnia— Nolens Yolens. The death of Col. Henry W. Grady, which occurred Monday morning, sends a plunging dart of sorrow to the heart of every Georgian that time will never •rase, and only console with the memory of xiis record as a lead ing stitesman commanding 111® world’s attention and his state's highest aduiirslion, esteem and honor. He was a man of brain —a trained philosopher—a gift ed orator. A man of broad views. A genial, cultivated, r® fined and Christian gentleman of polished manners aod fine address. He possessed that dig nity and trait of character that makes the man—a well-shaped head, a face of feminine fea tures, a short neck, set on a broad pair of shoulders and a full chest, betokened the man within himself, The good tint Col. Grady has dona tor Georgia and the South, words will not unite, but far greater his works remain. His death was a sickening pang to the state, and we fear, a tolling blow to her progress. He had kept her party united. He had done all in his power to promote hjr industries and develop her wealth, and invite immigration. He had done all in his power to promote her education, build up her churches, sustain her moral and high standing. Col Grady was a young man. hardly in the meridian e r life. It would seem death called him before his work was hardly be gun. He was on the merge of a move in the Souih, that had ha accomplished, would have given him a name surpassed by none save fhe immortal Wash ington. Hut death has slain the the golden sheaf, and we fear the harvest is lost. It is thought next yea? will be a good crop year. Many ar* living in hopes that it will. Some are yet behind ia paying out with their merchant, And it will take another good crop year to put them straight. The Harmony Grove people enjoyed a Christmas tree, NC. 34.
