Analysis
of Fertilizers Sold by Cumraing Oil k Fertilizer
Company for the Year 1908.
Analysis of Commercial Fertilizers is not beneficial to the
• farmer to the extent intended by the law making power. The
state expends money to maintain a department, the duty of
which is to give official information to the public of the anal
ysis of all commercial fertilizers sold in the state during the
current year. But this information is never accessible to the
public until the fertilizers are utilized and the crops harvest
ed. For instance, in buying fertilizers this spring for the pres
ent crop, we only have the bulletin issued for the year 1908,
and therefore do not know the commercial value of that
same brand of fertilizer for the present year.
Perceiving this disadvantage, for my own satisfaction, as
well as the benefit of our customers, I have had our fertiliz
ers analized amd the analysis for this year is as follows:
Available Phosphoric Acid 11-58 per cent
Insoluble “ “ 0 62 per cent
Total “ “ 12-20 per cent
Nitrogen “ “ 1-98 per cent
Equivalent Ammonia “ 2-40 per cent
Potash 2-85 per ceut
Th# making the commercial value aetuallp found $21.06
By a careful reading of the above analysis it will be seen that
the commercial value of our goods is $3.10 more than the
commercial value claimed for them.

Mountains In Pennsylvania.
BY EULA TURNER.
The Alleghaney mountains form
a part of the great Appalachian
chain, extending from the St Law
rence river in the North to Ala
bama in the South. The genera!
direction of these mountains is
from Northeast to Southwest and
they constitute the great easterly
ridge of the Northern Continent.
Sometimes the whole range is
spoken of generally by the title,
Alleghany, the meaning of which
is, endless—lndian origin of course.
The name Appalachian was giv
en to thj range by the Spaniards
under De Soto, who probably re
ceived it from the Indians. The
total length of the Appalachian
ranges is about 1300 miles and its
mean width about 109 miles. It
comprises several extensive groups
of mountains better known by the
local names such as the White
Mountains of New Hampshire, Ad
irondacks, the Catskills, the High
lands of the Hudson, the Cumber
lands, the Blue the Black moun
tains. and the entire system of lat
eral hills and spurs of this eastern
region of the continent. The
highest peaks of this range are in
North Carolina and in New Hamp
shire
In the former state, the Black
mountains rise to an elevation of
between six and seven thousand
feet above the sea ; and Mt Wash
ington, in the White mountains,
has an altitude of 6,288 feet. Geo
logically this mountain range is
highly important. Granite rocks
containing veins of magnetic iron
ore, limestone, rocks, iron and coal
of almost limitless extent, togeth
er with copper, lead, gold. Silver
and other mineral strata abound.
In some parts of the range, rock
salt is obtained by boring artesian
wells and evaporation. The sur
face of these hills is clothed with
noble forests and the valleys are
watered by overflowing streams.
All Easter Dinner.
On Sunday morning the nth a merry
party of young people from near Gaines
ville took a delightful drive over into
F county to the beautiful and pic
turesque little mountains known as Coal
mountain, ther.e to observe Easter, a
thought of viewing nature as she was
waking up from her long winter sleep to
put on new life
Well filled baskets of good things to
eat was carried along lots of nice fresh
eggs, and the kettie taken along, eggs
fried and eggs boiled and none was left
to spoil. After dinner the gay party
feeling so much refreshed went for a
stroll over the mountain, gatheridg lil
lies, violets and other beautiful flowers.
In each heart was a prayer.
So many eyes tear blinded scarcely see
The gracious hope and promise ot the
spring;
Though leaf and bud are rich in prophecy
The God of pity at this Eastertide,
May all the sweet glad promise of the
day
Steal into the hearts and here abide,
Grant visions unto such as these we pray
The party consisted of Mr Carlton Ow
en, Misses Carrie and Annie Odell, Mat
tie and Alma Cwen, Mr and Mrs T S

Right here is the secret of awk
wardness. It is self-consciousness.
A girl who thinks about how she
is going to look when she extends
her hand will hold it out as stiff as
a pump handle. If she is worried
about the appears nee of her walk
she will stalk over the landscape
like a wooden dummy. What a
person does gracefully is done un
consciously. So if a person would
learu grace she must first learn
how to do things unconsciously
and she can only learn to do things
unconsciously by doing them often.
Better simple food with pleasure
than luxuries with annoyance and
worry.
