Therefore, be it resolved : That
in the death of Hardin Silver City
Lodge No 339 F. & A. M. has lost
-oue of its best and most faithful
members. The community in
which he lived a kind neighbor
and progressive upright citizen,
and his family, a loving father and
kind and faithful husband.
Bro. Hardin joined the Masonic
Fraternity during the civil war.
He affiliated with Silver City
Lodge soon after its constitution,
and has filled several stations, of
trust in our Lodge with credit to
himself and satisfaction to the
craft.
Silver City Lodge extends to the

Practical Young Men.
The young man who is petted
too much at home is seldom any
good. What is wanted now-a-days
is a practical man who can do some
thing besides smoke cigarettes
and twist a cane. The time to
learn to work and to leam business
habits is in one’s youth. He who
leads the life of a butterfly until
he is twenty-five or thirty vears of
age, and then recognizes the fact
that he has made an ape of him
self, has precious little to recom
tjKend him wi.en he applies for a
job. This may be a chestnut, but
it fits not a few young men in every
-city in the Union. The boys on
farm are better off if they only
knew ir, than thousands of the
bo vs who are at large, wandering
hither and thither, searching and
looking for “rich bonanzas’ to turn
up- There is nothing like being
practical, and there is but one way
io be so. Acquire business habits
.and train yourself to do good,
honest, hard work. Don’t waste
your time learning to tie a cravat.
You can buy crava's already tied.
A Plea For The Housewife.
It is extremely unpleasant for a
sensitive woman who. before mar
riage, had been earning her own
living, and had been accustomed
to spending her income as she
pleased, to ask * man for money to
buy everything she needs, such as
cotton, needles, pins, etc., It
seems to us no more „ than right
that a man should give his wife,
for her owr, tieces-ities, at least
half as much money as he would a
servant. She keeps his house, pro
vides for the comfort of himself
and children, not for hire, but be
cause she loves them, and she cares
for her husband’s interests as no
hired housekeeper would, and is
she not entitled to pay for her ser
vices? Yet some men would think
it a hardship to pay a wife $2.00
per wesk—the amount he would
be obliged to nay a servant girl.
There is many a woman among
the working classes who would
think herself highly favored if she
were sure of fifty cents per week
of her husband’s wages to sperd as
she pleased. The above hints are
for the husbands who need them,
and written in consideration of
their good wives

That Lame Back
Kidney Disease
And to Relieve the Lame and Aching
You Must First Relieve the Kidneys
There is no question about that
at all —for the lame and aching
back is caused by a diseased con
dition of the kidneys and bladder.
It Is only common sense, any way
—that you must cure a condition
by removing the cause of the con
dition. And lame and aching back
are not by any means the only
symptoms of derangement of the
kidneys and bladder. There are a
multitude of well-known and un
mistakable indications of a more or
legs dangerous condition. Some of
nft*e are, for Instance: Extreme
and unnatural lassitude and weari
■k, nervous irritability, heart Ir
regularity, “nerves on edge,” sleep
lessness and inability to secure
rest, scalding sensation and sedi
ment in the urine, inflammation of
the bladder and passages, etc.
DeWitt’s Kidney and Bladder
Pills are an exceptionally meritori
ous remedy for any and all affec
tions or diseased conditions of
these organs. These Pills operate
directly and promptly—and their
beneficial results are at once felt.
They regulate, purify, and effec
tually heal ard restore the kid
neys, bladder and liver, to perfect
and healthy condition—even in
some of the most advanced cases.
The Artistic Temperament.
“I cannot marry you !”
The brilliant young chorus girl,
her face naturally flushed with
fnr high determination, gazed
fondly but determinedly into the
eyes of the young magnate whose
wealth was numbered by millions,
says Life.
“Cannot marry me?” he repeat
ed. “Surely there is some mistake.
I offer _\os equally and all the fi
nancial privileges I command. You
wili own your own home and be
able to sip from" the fountain of
eternal gasoline. Why do you re
fuse me?”
Shfe smiled loftily, if sadly, as
she replied :
“I do it tor my art- Surrounded
by the temptations of great wealth,
I fear that I wouid iapse into an
idle creature. No! No! Archi
bald, it cannot be. My art must
not suffer. I thank you for your
kind offer. Believe me, I shall
always be your true friend. But
ask me nothing more. Art, al
ways, and for all time! Besides, I
am going to marry your father.”
And putting her pink silk tights
into her card envelope system she
passed out into the night. Ex
Teach The Children To Save
Money.
It is often and truthfully said
that a penny saved is a penny
made. The foundation of many
of the greatest fortunes was begun
by saving a penny. The habit of
saving is one of fhe best that can
be formed. Every child should be
taught to save something every
week. The satisfaction of saving
these pennies when the bank is
emptied is one of the pleasures
that we never forget; perhaps
every one of us can remember the
thrill of joy we had wnen we emp
tied the contents of the bank on
the table and counted and recount
ed this mountain of wealth ; how
eager we were to tell our little
friends the amount of our great
fortune, and raced with them in
refilling the bank.
To bring this pleasure within
the reach of every child and help
the forming of the penny-saving
habit. Messrs. Scott & Bowne,
409 Peerl Street, New York, the
manufacturers of Scott’s Emulsion,
are offering to send to my address,
for 10 cents, a beautiful little Sav
ings Bank ; each bank contains a
new Good Luck Penny. Send 10
cents and get one.

Home.
A happy home is the brightest
spot on earth that the eye of God
looks down upon. Love and peace
in his home sends sunshine around
the man wherever he goes ; disor
der and trouble there is misery
everywhere. There are tew wor
ries of life which a man cannnot
new and then shake off, but who
can shake himself fiee from the
skeleton in the closet, from the
worry of the household} a blister
on the heart. A day will tell how
many a man carried that with him
without wincing down to the grave.
When husband and wife are help
mate to each other in the best
sense; when order and love and
gooaness prevail in the house. Then
the man who has a hard battle in
life to fight can leave his struggles
behind him wnei he enters there.
With all our faults we are the mos
home loving of people and that is
the reason why we are Hie PTeatest
of people. Whatever helps some
life is a national blessing; what j
ever hurt* home life L a national ,
curse, and the greatest curse that
can touch these blessings is what
would tamper with the peace and
blvssedn-ss of our home’s.
Guardians of the Wilderness.
The United States government main
tains a curious little force of police
men who do not patrol posts in the
cities or towns, but may well be called
the guardians of the wilderness, for it
is their business to look after vast
forests where few human beings live.
It may seem odd that it is necessary
to have nature’s police to go here and
there in the forests and amid the
mountains, but it is very necessary in
order to protect one of the great re
sources _ of America. Some of these
rangers of the wild have “beats” so
extensive that one man may be the
sole protector of a miniature empire,
comprising 200,000 acres of primeval
forest.—Wide World Magazine.

Saved At Death’s Door.
The door of death seemed ready to
open for Murray VV. Ayers, of ’transit
3ridge N. Y., when his life was wonder
fully" saved. “I was in a dreadful con
dition,” he writes “my skin was almost
yellow; eyes sunken; tongue coated; em
aciated from losing 40 pounds, growing
weakei daily, Virulent liver trouble
pulling me down to death in spite of
doctors. Then that matchless medicine-
Electric Bitters- cured me, I regained
the 40 pounds lost and now am well

kid cy tioubles they’re supreme. 50c.
