MILITARY TRAINING
FOR ACTIVE SERVICE
AT STATE UNIVERSITY
Special Courses In Trench Warfare,
Wireless And Field Fortifications
Will Be Taught
The University of Georgia at Ath
ens hp.3 arranged to give special mili
tary courses the coining year with a
view of fitting men for active mili
tary service and of giving them a max
imum opportunity for advancement
and promotion when they enlist. The
military work will be given in connec
tion with the regular courses and will
count as credits towards a degree.
Men who are preparing to enter the
army at an early date will be allowed
to matriculate w-ithout the usual scho
lastic entrance requirements.
Gymnasium training will be made
compulsory, the regular drill exercis
es will be five times a week, and a
special United States army officer will
head the Military Department. There
will be a compulsory course for Jun
iors and Seniors in military science,
embracing Fijld Service Regulations,
Army Regulations, and Military Rec
onnoissanco and Topography. This
course will count towards a degree
and can be taken also by men of the
draft age who will come to the Uni
versity for training before they are
drafted.
Certificates will ba-givev. to men de
siring special military training for suc
cessful work in each of the following
courses:
Course A. This course will deal
with military roads and railroads,
field fortifications and entanglemcn s,
methods of trench construction and
with cordage and military bridges.
Course B. Work in this course
will deab with power plants, transpor
tation and communication with spe
cial emphasis given to t&e study of
electric generators, motors, transform
ers and storage cells as used in small
field power plants for lighting and
power on trucks. A study of field tel
egraphy, telephoning and wireless will
be given also, together with a'course
dealing with the gasoline engine as
used in automobiles, trucks aud aero
planes.
Course C. Forty-two men' gradu
ated from tftkf course given; during
Summer School and have already en
listed for active service as sergeants
in the army Quartermaster's Corps.
A similar course will begin September
19 and continue three months. Three
classes will be graduated during the
year for the service.
It is believed that men who pursue
these courses will find themselves in a
favorable position as to training and
advancement on entering active serv
ice.

ty cents on the one hundred dollars of
taxable property of said county as per

same is hereby levied for county pur
poses for the year 1917, viz:

It is further ordered that the Tax
Collector collect said amount and pay
the same over to the County Treasurer
for county purposes as aforesaid,

Collector of said county collect the sum
of fifty centson the ($100) one hundred
dollars of the taxable property of Cum
ming Public School District as shown
by tlie tax digest of said district for
the year 1917, as levied by the board of
trustees of said school and the County
School Commissioner of said county,
ahd pay the same over to the Treasurer
of the Board of Trustees of Cumming
Public School.
It is further ordered that the Tax
Oolloctor of said county collect the
sum of 20c on the oße hundred dollars
of taxable property of mayfield public
school district as shown by the tax di
gest of said district for the vear 1917,
as levied by the Treasurer of the Board
of Trustees of said district and the
County School Commissioner of said
county, and pay the same over to the
Treasurer of the Hoard of Trustees of
