A GREAT COMPARISON.
By Mercer Williams.
For I reckon that the suffer
ings of this present time are not
v. or thy to be compared with the
glory that shall be revealed in us.
R (mans 8:18.
We are to note in this verse
that Paul is making a comparison
or earthly suffering and heaven
ly glory. In other words he sets
f„rth the Rreath truth that the
present suffering of life is great
indeed, but at the same time he
tots heavenly glory and enjoy
ment far superior, and from this
glorious verse let us learn this
• ■iiiious truth: that if we are
with Christ we shall also be glo
rilie i with him.
In order to get a clearer in
sight into this subject let us con
sider the sufferings of life. Iti
unnecessary to go into the num
erous details of life suffering, for
every one that lives knows some
thing more or less about them.
Tnere is suffering everywhere,
brought about by various causes
Tnere are heart aches everj
where, tiouble almost all the
time, tears flowing in streims,
sin opposing the children of God,
persecution, false accusation,
misrepresentation, poverty, hard
ships and trials, temptations and
tribulations, sorrow, pain, grief,
sickness, and death, making mil
lions its viotims. If this is n t
suffering 1 don’t know what you
would call it. I often think of
what 1 heard someone remark
recently: Thisis a hard old world
I don’t know of a more clearer
defin.tion of life’s suffering in a
few words than this.
Suffering, suffering, suffering.
We hear the cry on all all sides;
and let me emphasize the fact at
this moment that the Christian
is the principal victim of life’s
suffering for the cause of Christ
and the natural suffering also,
and I believe have by the inspi
ration of God wrote these word
to comfort those that endure
with p itience the sufferings of
life, and the Bible also holds
plain the truth that our days are
but few and full of trouble. At
all times we are meeting with
opposition on all sides, and let
mo say, friends, when we take
t ie litter situation under proper
c msideration ii’s perfectly aston
ishing even when we catch a
faint glimpse of present suffer
ing. and 1 believe the sufferings
which Raul has spoke of are uni
versal. Or in other words, the
suffering of the whole wcr.d.
And 1 also believe he hai refer
ence not to just a few, but to all
the suffering combined.
19. Worthy to be compared,
Let us notice this verse. Let u-
le tve the dark picture of suffer
ing and note the great compari
son.
Life with ali its sulftring; life
with all its pain; life with all its
g iel ; life with all its terrors;
I ie with all its trials; life with
all .ts agonies: life with all its
disaypointments; life with all its
hardships: life with all its trou
hies; life with all its temptation*:
life with all its tears; life with all
us opposition; life witn all its
storms: and death with its sting,
is not worthy to be compared
ui h the glory that shall lore
vealed to the people of God. What
a glorious thought to think of
this consolation that our suffer
ings are nothing compared with
tin glory we shall share,
How great that glory will be
if it cannot be compared with
larthly sufferings. It’s a niightv
leautiful tmught. to think tha
if u> > ■ r e- \. fli Chtist with him
la<> shall we lie glorified.
If we are not willing to suffer
and endure all trials and tribula
tions for the sake of our Lord,
we are not worthy of glorifica
tion with him.
So let us endure with patience
and hope our present suffering,
knowing that God knows best,
and in due time our sufferings
will result in a revelation of per
fect enjoyment. Lot’s not grow
faint hearted in the midst of suf
fering, but with an eye of faith
let’s look unto God, enduring all
things, hoping all things, know
ing that our present sufferings
are not worthy to be compared
with the glory that shall be re
vealed in us.
