The Young People’s Missiona
ry Society of the Methodist
church entertained at a Hobo par
ty last Friday evening in honor
of Mr. Herman C. Gnann, who
leaves next week for his home in
Springfield, Ga.
“If you love the eall of the open road
And the cheer of a care-free hand,
Come join the jolly vagabonds
As we hike thro’ Hobo Land;
We’ll leave dull care behind us
And we'll honor Mr. Gnann.”

Such were the summons 28 ho
boes received written on scraps
of brown paper. When they ar
rived they were shown the map
of the route which directed them
to the back door of Mrs. W. N.
Poole, where they were given a
handout. From there they went
to the back door of Mrs. Marcus
Mashburn and after repeating
the magic pass word, ‘‘Hard
luck, Lady,” they .vere given a
hobo meal t cket. Next they
sought the back door of Mrs. Mac
Puett, where they were ordered
thro’ the house, and to the Pub
lic Park (front porch.) Here
seats were provided for all but
one hobo and a brakeman who
began the game, Stealing a Ride.
The “Route of the Serpentine R.
R.” was the contest provided for
the Miss Jonnie Bar
rett and Mr. Ansel Poole were
joint winners of the prize, a beau
tiful copy of ‘‘Heap O’ Livin’’
by Edgar A. Guest, which was
given the honoree- An appro
priate presentation speech was
made bv Mr. Broughton Durham
The Weary Willies were noti
fied that they must saw wood be
fore receiving the complete Hobo
Handout. This they did with a

rewarded for their labor.
By way of concluding the pro
gram. Mr. Gnann was presented
a Who’s Who Book in which was
recorded the name, age, weight,
type, height, faforite study.hob
by, chief fault, and a number of
other characteristic traits of all
present.
Mr. Gnann, as Coach of Ath
letics and Instructor of Science
and Mathematics in the High
School, has shown himself to be
a teacher of no mean ability; and
by the superior quality of his
work and his modest, friendly
manner, he has won a warm
place in the hearts of both his
pupils and his patrons who learn
with sincere regret that he will
not he with them again in the
capacity of teacher.
The best wishes of his many
friends go with him as he takes
up his work in the School of Med
icine of Emory University.
