Apropos of the discussion of the question as to whether marriage is a failure, Prussian statistics on in sanity afford some very interesting figures. Out of 100,000 of the pop ulation of each class of the mental ly diseased among the married were but ninety-five males and ninety five females. Among the single, 322 males and 291 females. Among the widowed 321 males and 256 fe males. Among the divorced 1,081 males and 1,031 females. These figures almost prove that married people are the only s.-.ne people. The large proportion of insane among tae divorced indicates at least that divorce doos not promote sanity. The even ratio of insanity in the two sexes shown by the figures is also surprising. Perhaps ’ by the time the marriage question has been viewed from all stand points it will bo found to be one of the institutions this world cannot < very well get along without. . The great evangelist j was as racy as usual in his remarks, , and one of the papers quotes him ] as follows: t I don’t know how to argue with . a fellow that’s silly.
