W. S. Sparks, of Coldwater dis-
■ trict, informs us that last week
i his dog was bitten by a rattle*
snake’s pilot, anil that he cured
; him in a short time with a prepa-
■ ration made by boiling the leaves
lof the cocklcbur weed in sweet
j milk and giving internally. Mr.
j Sparks does not know of any per-
■ son using this remedy when bitten
I but believes that it will cure in
everv case, and desires that it be
published forth" benefit of anyone

The air is full of rumors of rail
roads and while very little is known

The people of Chattooga are law
abiding and peaceable. Henry Pope
was not a native of this county,
and to him may be traced the Vann-
White tragedy, while Sanford, the
murderer of Salmon on Sunday last
has not. been in the county over a
■.ear, having emigrated from Ten
nessee. Hit were not for these
unfortunate cases Chattooga would
have a record second to no»e for all
the virtues; and if it, had not been
that straggling characters came
into the county to do their mean
ness these eases would, never have
been on tnc county calendar. Keep

and fro upon the earth and up and
down on it.

Miss Betty Johnson, of Chattan
ooga, is down on a visit, to friends
in Summerville and vicinity and
will remain perhaps a month or
two.

yard at W. F. Henry’s are request
sed to meet there next Monday,
August 12, for the purpose of put
ting it in good condition.

buildings will be pushed to comple
tion as rapidly as possible.

We have had our carder re-cloth
ed and spindles re-turned by first

find that it does good work. •

in town last Sunday morning on the
charge of bastardy, Ada Christal
i being the witness on whose oath
the warrant was procured. On
Monday the, case was investigated
’Squire Burns presiding, and Knox

fading in which, he was lodged in
jail where he now is.
