that would indicate that the price
of tan bark will, in all probability
advance during the present season.
It is reported that buyers front
Louisville and other western points
will be along the line of the C. It.
& for the purpose of securing
all the bark possible, which of
course goes to show that the demand
• r is good.
A difficulty occurred last Friday
between John Walls and Bunn
Lumpkin, both of Walker county,
in which the later was struck on the
head with a rock and his skull bad
]y fractured. The doctors thought,
however, that if inflammation did
not set up he might recover. Mr.
Walls, at last accounts, was keep-1
ing out of the way, evidently await- i
ing the result of the injury.
Last week Steve Garrett weut to
Raccoon fishing and during the day
succeeded in killing a two-pound
trout. Returning home Mr. Garrett
became thirsty, as fisherman some- j
times will, and reaching the Harlow

and proceeded to quench his thirst.
He then proceed on his way, minus
the fish and did not discover the
mistake until near home, and, then
it occured to him that he had left
his trout in the branch. Fisherman’s

Some months ago a gentleman
who is quite well known in this
| county came to town in a buggy and,
| having business in Rome, he
| boarded the train for that place,
j leaving his mule hitched to a post
in the streets. Returning from
Romo that night the gentleman
went to a livery stable, hired a con
veyance and went home, entirely
oblivious of the fact that he had a
mule and buggy here. The mule
stood tied up to the post all night
j and some of the boys say the frost
was an inch deep on his ears next
morning. Then Ins owner, missing
him at home, remembering that he
had driven him to Summerville the
day before, came to town to recover
his lost property.

“There is one solace left to me at

Look Out For Color.
Experiments with English caval
ry horses show that gray or dun
colored animals are the most easily
frightened. The blacks are the
most obstinate, the chestnuts the
most enduring, and the bays have
the most intelligence and do the
most reasoning. These facts prob
ably- hold good the world over and
are a guide to purchasers.
