Treasury Relief Measure Intro
duced by Senator Mills.
Washington, Dec. 5.—A number
of bills were introduced in the sen
ate today. Among them.was:
By Senator Mills directing the
secretary of the treasury to have
all the silver in the treasury coin
ed into subsidiary coin and provid
ing that, when the revenues of the
government shall be insufficient to
meet the current expenses of the
government, the secretary shall is
sue non-interest bearing legal ten
der treasury notes, in amounts
sufficient to cover the deficiency
and pay out the same iri the cur
rent expenditures of the govern
ment; and also, that when the
gold reserve in the treasury shall
be in excess of $100,000,000, and
legal tender notes are presented for
redemption in coin, they shall be
redeemed in either gold or silver
coin at the discretion -of the secre
tary. The bill also provides that
when the reserve shall fall below
$100,000,000 the secretary shall
redeem the notes in silver, It
closes with a declaration for the
maintenance of the parity of tl.o
two metals and a provision for the
repeal of all laws authorizing the
issuance of interest bearing bonds.
MENLOJIA.
R. A. McWhorter is still in bad
health.
Mrs. Maggie Williams is suffering
from a felon on her hand.
The Mission Sunday school at Sunny
Dale will have a Christmas tree on the
evening of the 24tn.
The members of the Menlo Baptist
church called Rev T. C. Starkey, of
Attalla, Ala., to be their pastor for the
next year.
M. Hooks will move his planing
mill to near Mentone some time in
January.
J. M. Lawreace drove thirty-one
fine, fat porkers to Rome last week.
This is right. Our section ought to
raise meat to sell instead of buying
from the northwest.
L. D. Agnew killed a last week
that weighed 451 pounds; j. Hancock,
of near Alpine, killed two that weigh
ed 810. while Lawrence Etheridge and
others have hogs that will average 350
pounds. That means plenty of sau
sage and spare ribs and backbones.
Miss Fanny Waddell, of Summer
ville, is visiting in Menlo this week.
Miss Mattie Estell is in Atlanta this
week, on a visit to the Expo.
Van Neely, of near LaFayette, was
visiting the family ofT. L. Majors last
week.
The debate at the Academy every
Friday night grows in interest and en
thusiasm. There was a large audience
present last Friday night, and some
splendid speeches listened to. After
wards Prof. Ransom delivered a speech
in his usual strong and forcible man
ner in which he encouraged the young
men to higher and nobler effort that'
their lives might, in the years to come,
reflect not only honor on themselves
but on their country. If B. S. of
Broomtown, was to hear him be would
know why young men want to come
to Menlo to school. Small.
A Significant Departure.
With the departure of another
year when a review is macle of the
condition of affairs, it is only right
that some thought be given to the
physical body which enables ev
eryone to battle with life’s prob
lem and figure for themselves ihe
profit or loss on the trial balance
sheet. Though the bank account
may be large and each one’s ma
terial gain be great, it would not
be surprising if it suddenly dawns
upon many that good health has
been greatly impoverished by the
low condition of the blood. It is
in this state that the lactic acid
in the vital fluid attacks the fi
brous tissues, particular y the
joints, making known the local
manifestations of rheumatism.
Thousands of people have found
in Hood’s Sarsaparilla the great
blood purifier, a positive and per
manent cure for rheumatism.

Major C. T. Picton is manager
of the State Hotel, at Denison,
Texas, which the travelling men
say is one of the best hotels in that
section. In speaking of Chamber

Remedy Major Picton says: “I
have used it myself and in my
family for several years, and take
pleasure in saying that I consider
it an infallible cure for diarrhoea
and dysentery. I always recom
mend it, and have frequently ad
ministered it to my guests in the
hotel, and in every case it has
proven itself worthy of unquali
fied endorsement. For sale by all
druggists.
The prosperity of a town is not
gauged by wealth of its inhabitants I
but by the uniformity with which
they pull together when any im
portant undertaking is to bo ac
complished. A man with SI,OOO
at his command and a love of his
own town at heart can do more
for the upbuilding and improve
ment of it than the millionaire
who locks up his capital and snaps
his fingers at home progress.
When most needed it is not un
usual for your family physician
to be away from home. Such was
the experience of Mr. J. Y. Schenck
editor of the Ind , Ter., Banner,
when his little girl, two years of

attack of croup. He says: ‘My
wife insisted that I go for the doc

dy, which relieved her immediate
ly. I will not be without it in the
future.” 25 and 50 cent bottles 1

A Romantic Marriage.
Rather a romantic marriage occurred
at Lyerly last Saturday morning, at
which time D. D. Dover, of Lyerly,
am'. Miss Rhoda Baker, of Dirttown
valley, were married, Rev. Mr. Gla
zener officiating.
Miss Baker had been a pupil at the
Lyerly school during the last session,
and Mr. Dover was also a student.
During this time an attachment sprung
up between them, but so quiet was tl e
matter kept that even their most inti
mate frienjs did not suspect it-.
Saturday morning Miss Baker
started for home accompanied by Mr.
I Dover, but on reaching the Baptisi
church they stopped, where according
to previous arrangement Mr. Glazner
met them, and going into the church
the two were soon made one. It was
the intention of the young people to
keep the matter secret for some little
lim», but the news soon got abroad,
and their friends are now congratula
ting them.
