Last Sunday Mr. Alexander Hol comb, of Raccoon mills and Miss Dol lie Hancock of near Alpiue, were mar ried in Summerville by Rev. T. S. •Ilaisten. Please cal and pay them. 4t Cleghorn A- Henry. Last Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Espy complimented Marvin Moy ers with a party on the occasion of his sixteenth birthday anniversary. All of the younger set were invited and the affair was one of extreme pleasure in every way. The editor is indebted to Mr. J. 11. Meserve, of Chelsea, for a present of some of the finest potatoes and turnips of the season: also some genuine Jer sey butter. Mr. Meserve knows how to find the way to a hungry editor’s heart and he has our thanks for his thoughtful kindness. Jim Thomas, colored, was tried be fore Judge Bellah last Monday evening on a charge of tisiug obscene and pro fane language in the presence of fe males. The jury remained out some little time considering the evidence and finally came in with a verdict of guilty with a recommendation to the mercy of the court. Judge Bellah fined Thomas the costs in the case, or iu default three mouths iu the chain i gaug. WANTED some corn on subscrip tion. Miss Mary Espy of Trion. is visiting Mrs. G. D. Espy this week. Rosser left yesterday morning for Dalton where lie goes to attend the annual meeting of the North Georgia Conference. The merchants of Summerville had a splendid trade last Saturday, all of them being kept quite busy throughout the day. The North Georgia Annual Confer ence meets in Dalton today, at which time the Methodist ministers will be allotcd to their different lields of work lor the coming year. Walter Weaver, son of Mr. Frank Weaver, of Dirttown valley, died last Friday morning, of what was thought to be congestion. Mr. Weaver has another son who is very sick with the same disease. It is said that the mayor of Rome and members of the council, as well as all prominent citizens, deposit their days earning at 15 o’clock each after noon to he sure that are not held up and robbed before dark. John R. Clemmons has placed liis notes and accounts in my hands for collection and all parties owing him either by note or account will please conic forward and settle at once and save cost. C. A marriage which lias been of great interest to Dalton’s society young peo ple was that of Will Patton, of Sweet water, Tenn., to Miss Francis Bitting, of Dalton, which took place yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock, Rev. E. M. Dyer officiating. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride on Selvidge street, and though a quiet af fair, was a most elegant one.—Rome Commercial. Miss Dora Rambo, of near Lyerly, j died Monday evening at G o’clock, af ter a protracted illness of consumption. | Miss Rambo was a most estimable wo i man and was universally popular with I all who were fortunate enough to be her friends. Her death was not unex pected, yet it has cast a gloom over the entire community in which she lived and was best known.
