GOV. TAYLOR WILL RESIGN.
Tennessee’s Chief Executive to
Go Upon the Lecture Platform
Next Fall.
Nashville, Tenn., May 9—While
Governor Taylor refuses to talk
for publication concerning the re
ports that he has decided to resign,
and that about October he will
cease to be Governor, it is known
that le has so decided, and that to
day he told several gentlemen that
the reports are correct. About
October it is his intention to re
sign, and it is almost certain that
he will again go upon the lecture
platform. The publication this
morning of the story that Governor
Taylor intended to resign created
quite a sensation in political and
other circles, though that this was
the Governor’s intention was
known To quite a number.
A Concession.
The placing of whetstones and
lemon peels on the free list was no
doubt in the nature of a concession
to the poor people of this country,
who are presumed to be large con
sumers of those articles and are
constantly clamoring for them. —

Mr. John A. Baswell, while out
hunting the other day, was unex

wind. He tried every possible
means to avoid its fury, but it fol

voided its danger by a hasty re
treat to his house, and then, to his
surprise and delight it vanished.—

A Remarkable Memento.
Captain M. B. Rowe of Freder
icksburg, Va., recently plowed up
on the Bloody Angle battlefield,
near Spottsylvania Court House
where the bullets flew’ thick and
fast during the fierce fighting in
May, 1864, a remarkable memento
of that battle. It consists of
three bullets welded together in
away as to to suggest that, coming
from different directions, they met
in midair.
No mystery about it. When the
Shakers offered some time ago to
give away a bottle of their Diges
tive Cordial to any one who might
call at their New York office, there
was a great rush and a great many
people thought they were crazy.
Subsequent events proved it to
have been a very clever advertis
ing transaction, for although |they
gave away thousands of bottles, it
was in the end profitable; nearly
every one that took a free bottle
came back for more and paid for
it with pleasure, saying they had
derived better results from its use
than from any other medicine they
had ever used.
There is nothing so uniformly
successful in the treatment of
stomach troubles as the Shaker Di
gestive Cordial, and what is bettor
than all, it relieves at once.

How To Find Out,
Fill a bottle or common glass with
urine and let it stand twenty-four
hours; a sediment or settling indi
cates an unhealthy condition of
the kidneys. When urine stains

kidney” trouble. Too frequent de
sire to urinate or pain in the back
is also convincing proof that the
kidneys and bladder are out of or
