SUMMERVILLE, CHATTOOGA COUNTY, GEORGIA, DECEMBER I, 1897.
THREE NEW CIRCUITS.
Special Committee Decides That
Changes Are Necessary.
Georgia will have three new ju
dicial circuits. The special com
mittee of one from each circuit,
appointed several days ago, met
iast night and decided that impor
tant changes were necessary.
The two bilis introduced in the
. house to divide the Coweta circuit
and to create a new circuit in south
Georgia.
In the first instance the com
mittee recommended the division
the new circuit to be known as the
Carrol ton circuit.
The second bill was introduced
by Mr. Whipple of Dooly. It pro
vides for an entirely new circuit
to be known as the Wiregrass cir
cuit. To both the objection was
urged that there was not enough
business to warrant the change,
but both bills were approved by
the committee. It is also proposed
to make a separate circuit of Chat
ham count}, and a bill embodying
the proposed change will be intro
duced by Mr. Brannen, of Bulloch.
The Coweta circuit will now be
composed of Coweta, Meriwether,
Campbell and Fayette.
The Carrollton circuit will be
composed of Carroll, Heard and
Troup. This bill was introduced
jointly by Messrs Moore and Cole,
of Carrol 1.
The Wiregrass circuit will be
composed of Dooly, Wilcox, Irwin
and Worth.
Chatham will be a circuit in it
self, and the other counties will be
formed into a circuit. These coun
ties are Bryan, Bulloch, Liberty,
Mclntosh, Effingham, Montgomery
and Tattnall.

BOYNTON BILL LOST.
Anti Barroom Measure Killed
In House Last Week.
Atlanta, Nov. 23.—The Boyn
ton anti-barroom bid, the revived
"Bush bill,” met defeat in the
house today. The fight was brought
to an unexpected focus, aud, for a
time, the result seemed uncertain.
On a motion to table the bill, 84
vot just four less than a consti
tutional majority, were polled for
the measure. It was subsequently
shown, however, that many of
‘hose who voted against tabling
the bill did so for the purpose of
I putting a speedy end to the strug
gle. When the bill came up for
passage they promptly jumped on
it. On the final vote the bill failed
of a constitutional majority—74
to 64.
A stomachful of undigested food
is about as unhealthy a mass as
one can well imagine.
What can be done with it?
There it stays. It won’t digest.
Itchurns, up ferments and decays;
becomes poisonous (as all putrid
matter does) and causes’great pain
and deep-seated disorders.
In order to change all this, take
Shaker Digestive Cordial.
It stops fermentation and decay
at once, so that no more poisons
are created.
It clears the stomach-of poisons
already there. It helps it to turn
thejfood that remains, into health
ful nourishment. It strengthens
the stomach for the next meal.
Here is the whole philosophy
and cure of indigestion in a few
words. And what’s more it’s all
true. Try it.
Shaker Digestive Cordial is r for
sale by druggists, price 10 cents to
SI.OO a bottle.
The largest farm in the country,
and probably in the world, is situ
ated in the southwestern part
Louisiana. It extends 100 miles
east and west. It was purchased
in 1883 by a syndicate of northern
capitalists, by whom it is still op
erated. At the time of its pur
chase its 1,500,000 acres was a vast
pasture for cattle belonging to a
few dealers in that country. Now
it is divided into pasture stations
or ranches, existing every six miles
The fencing is said to have cost
$50,0C0. The land is best adapted
for rice, sugar, corn and cotton.
A. tract, say half a mile wide, is
taken, and an engine is placed on
each side.- The engines are porta
ble and operate a cable attached
to four plows. By this arrange
ment thirty acres are gone over in
a day, with the labor of only three
men. There is not a single draught
horse on the entire place, if we ex
cept those used by the herders of
cattle, of which there are 16,000
head on the place. The Southern
Pacific railroad runs through the
farm. The company has three
steamboats operating on the wat
ers of the estate, of which 300
miles are navigable. It has also
an icehouse, bank, shipyard and
ice mills.

The Methodist Conference
Withdraws Its Sup
port.
The doers of the piedmont Institute
were closed last Wednesday, caused
so it is said by the withdrawal of the
support of the North Georgia confer
ence.
This was brought about, so it is sla
ted, by a petition sent to Conference by
citizens of Rockmart, making serious
charges against the management of the
Institute. Just what these charges are
could not be learned, but they have had
the effect to close the school for the
present.
It is presumed that the matter will be
investigated at lhe present meeting of
Conference and it is possible the school
may ü be opened again at au early
day.
Friends of President Ballenger say
the trouble is caused by malicious aud
evil minded persons in Rockmart, aud
that the management of the Institute
will be thoroughly vindicated ou inves

To Make and Serve Coffee.
“The most important point in
making good coffee is to use the
waler at the first appearance of
boiling,” writes Mrs. S.T. Rorerin
the December Ladies’ Home Jour
nal. “If it boils but a few minutes
it parts with its gases, becomes
flat and hard, and will make but
an imperfect infusion. Avoid also,
water that has been boiled and put
aside on the stove, and then re
boiled at coffee-making time. See
that the tea kettle from which you
take your coffee water is thorough
ly washed each morning, filled
with fresh cold water and brought
quickly to nearly the boiling point.
Put the'Coffoe and chicory in the
upper portion of pot, allowing one
heaping tablespoonful of finely
ground coffee aud a teaspoonful
of chicory to each half pint of wa
ter. Pour over it quickly the wa
ter, put on the lid so that the aro
ma may not escape, and as soon as
the water drains through the biggin
fill it again, and so continue until
you have the desired quantity.
The coffee must not be on the
stove unless at the back part,
where it cannot boil. Serving cof
fee is half the battle. In winter
have the cups heated, fill them
half full with scalded milk, and
pour in the freshly made coffee.
Do not add cream if you value
your health.”

THE FALL OF A METEOR.
Game Near Striking a Vessel in
The Pacific.
San Francisco, Nov. 25.—Thu
British Cawdor arrived today with
a story of miraculous escape from
a great meteor during an electric
storm off Cape Horn. The vessel
left Swansea on May 20, and by
July 22 had reached Cape Horn,
Storms delayed her in rounding
the Cape until Sept, 12.
On Aug. 20 a great electric storm
prevailed, and after a blinding
Hash of lightning, when all hands
were on deck, a huge meteor
flashed through the heavens and
plunged into the sea so close to
the ship that all on board thought
that the vessel was lost. A strong
sulphurous odor hung around the
vessel and the water was churned
up so that it swept over the deck.
The ship was uninjured, but it
was three weeks before she could
get around the Horn. The vessel
had been given up as lost and 12.1
guineas paid for reinsurance.

Not Always UnderstcoL
A fact often overlooked, or not
always understood, is that women
suffer as much from distressing
kindeys and .bladder troubles as
the men. The womb is situated
back of and very close to the blad
der, and for that reason any dis
tress disease or incovenience man
ifested in the kidneys, back bladder
or urinary passage is often, by
mistake, attributed to female
weakness or womb trouble of some
sort.
The error is easily made and may
be as easily avoided by setting ur
ine aside for twenty-four hours; a
sediment or settling is evidence
that your kidneys and bladder
need doctoring. If you have pain
or dull aching in the back, pass
water too frequently, or scanty
supply, with smarting or burning—
these are also convincing proofs of
kidney trouble. If you have doc
tored without benefit, try Dr. Kil
mer’s Swamp-Root, the great kid
ney remedy. The mild and the
extraordinary effect will surprise
you. It stands the highest for its
wonderful cures. If you take a
medicine you take the best. At
druggists fifty cent and one dollar.
