A Word From Mr. Lee.
Washington. D. C. April 20, 1906.
Fellow citizens of the Seventh
Georgia District: You will be
called upon to name your choice
for Representative in the next
Congress before I will have any
opportunity to see you. My op
ponent is distributing handbills
over the district that grossly
misrepresent both his own posi
tion and mine on live public ques
tions. After supporting me two
years ago, when he knew all that
1 had done while a member of
the Georgia legislature, he now
asks you to believe that I favored
all manner of evil legislation,
jHe knows this is not true, does
not believe it himself, and will
not be able to seduce any intelli
gent body of citizens from my
support by such methods. Some
will, of course, support him, but
■ not because they believe me to
be the venal and corrupt man he
| says J am.
Voting lor a bill himself that
would have destroyed the useful
ness of our Railroad Commission,
he yet proclaims that he favors
enlarging its powers; declaring
himself opposed to free passes,
he nevertheless opposed a bill
prohibiting their use by officials.
With this record staring at him
from the Journal of the House of
which he was a member, he has
the unblushing audacity to
charge me with occupying his
position on these questions,
while he now claims to occupy
mine.
He well knows that the only
law on our statute books against
the use of free passes was put
t here by the body of which 1 was
a member and that it had my
vote and support. To the fair
minded and honorable people of
the district I appeal for judg
ment upon his conduct. I beg
of you to go to the polls on
Thursday, May 3d, and indicate
it by your ballots.
GORDON LEE.
