STURDIVANT FRUIT FARM.
Sunday morning in the front
porch beholding the beauties of
the world we are blessed with
the warm sunshine to open up
the flowers that send forth their
odor through the air. We can
hear the birds sing and praise
their creator. The flowers in
the garden and field are shaking
off their winter cover that they
may see the creator. How many
of us, who are the best work of
God’s creation, are praising our
Creator this morning who has
blessed us with health and
strength to do our weeks’ work
and see the beautiful sunshine of
another Sabbath.
I had the pleasure of having all
mygrand babies with me Sunday.
It is always a pleasure to have
them with me. There are two
paris of twins, among them, one
pair is 5 years old, a boy and a
girl, the other pair not a year
old a boy and a girl.
Well we are all about done
planting cotton and are going to
the bottoms to get ready to plant
corn. The ground is getting
hard and if it don’t rain in a few
days we will have trouble with
them.
Mr. Oliver Crumley had the
misfortune to lose his horse last
week.
Brother Green filled his ap
pointment at the Bolling school
house Saturday night and Sun
day at eleven. There was a nice
crowd out, notwithstanding the
singing at Lyerly took off some
of the young people from here.
Among those that went to Lyerly
were, Charlie Bryant, Esther
Dalton, Willie Pullen, Hub Rivers.
.1. A. Pullen and family, of
Trion, spent Saturday night and
Sunday with his father’s family.

To Georgia Farmers.
Atlanta, Ga., April 24 Presi
dent M. L. Johnson, of
the Georgia Division, Southern
Cotton Association, addresses a
communication to the farmers of
Georgia today in which he urges
upon them the importance of put
ting themselves in a position
where, they can “bull” the cotton
crop of their own motion when
the necessity for it arises, Here
is what President Johnson says:
“To the farmers of Georgia:
Let me urge upon you the im
portance of putting yourselves in
a position where you can “bull”
the cotton crop whenever the
necessity for it may arise. The
most advantageous time for this
is between September 1 and Jan
uary 1, when the new crop is
coming from the fields. That is
the time to get the best prices
for you crop. It is then that the
mills are shortest of supplies and
their needs are most pressing.
It is then that the farmer should
be in a position where he cannot
be forced to sell, and where he
will not sell until the price fixed
has been reached.
"To put himself in this inde
pendent position the farmer must
lie practically fret- of debt. Debt
is the curse of the farmer, of his
family, of his country. Incur no
debt, or if you must borrow or
buy or. credit, be sure you make
no debt which you cannot meet
without selling your cotton to do
it. If you do you are sure to
! sacrifice you r own independence.
A people with only one money
crop must steer clear of debt.
The creditor always, of course,
makes the debt due when the
crop is ready for market, and
therein he has the advantage by
which he is able largely to con
trol the price of the product, an
advantage which the farmer
should and could have if he would
only insure his own independence
by making no debt which he is
compelled to pay in cotton.
If you will heed this advice and
secure your own independence,
you will be able to control the
price of <-ott<>i# ext season. Let
the county orA- ns suggest
what they thinw i » fair price
for the product, and through
iheir delegates let each state as
sociation say what the staple
should bring. Then let these
state organizations tell the South
ern Cotton Association • what
should b? the price of the crop,
and when that price is fixed let
us all stand shoulder to shoulder
and see that it is paid. You can
do this if you are in a position to
hold and control the cotton that
you make. Ultimate success de
pends at least upon the combined
efforts of individuals. Ix-ts all
work together lor t ; t success.
