The little infant child of Mr

last Tuesday morning after a
brief illness of about 18 hours.
He was taken with a convulsion
on Monday morning about 8
o’clock aud a physician was sum
monsed as soon as possible, but
temporary relief only could be
administred, as something had
been given the child to eat which
had set up inflaination of the
bowels, and it was one convulsion
after another until death relieved
it from pain. We know that his
parents feel lonely, as his sweet,
pratling voice has been hushed
in death, but we commend them
to Him who doeth all things ac
cording to his own good pleas
ure. We know that it is hard to
give the little one up, but he is
bathing in the sea of God’s eter
nal love, mingling his voice with
the angelic throng, who vie
around the throne. Strive to go
to him, since you cannot bring
him back. The funeral was con

COMMENDS JUDGE FITE.
People Are With Him in His
Positoin on Gambling.
Ed. News:
The Chattanooga Times in an
editorial of May 4th and former
issues in regard to Judge Fite’s
defeat, we think is correct so far
as relates to the defeat of Judge
Fite. The people generally sup
porting Mr. Lee mainly for the
reason that he had hardly entered
upon his duties as a member of
Congress before there was op
position to defeat him. We think
too that Judge Fite exercised too
much bitterness of feeling in the
campaign which worked to his
injury, but the people generally
are with him in the position he
took upon the question of gamb
ling for we verily believe the play
ing of cards for souvenirs and
prizes by fashionable society and
the ladies of the upper 10 is
working vastly more injury to
the young people of the country
than the negro crap shooter in a
pine thicket. And the people
are with Judge Fite in putting
the stamp of disapproval upon
it, and we commend him for the
firm stand he has taken in trying
to stamp out this evil, and would
be glad to see moreof the Judges
of Georgia and Tennessee do
the same thing. People hardly
realize the magnitude of the evil
and the wreckage of .young lives
that society gambling is produc
ing. We think too that the editor
of the Times acted very unfairly
towards the Judge when he im
puted to him for this stand,
personal interest and political
gain, because we believe the
political acumen of a man of
Judge Fite’s sense would have
dictated to the contrary. I think
the people’s decision in keeping
Gordon Lee in Congress and
Judge Fite on the bench was a
wise one. J. V..W.
