Women as Well as Men
Are Made Miserable by
Kidney Trouble.
Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, dis
courages and lessens ambition: beauty, vigor
and cheerfulness soon
disappear when the kid
neys are out of order
’ or diseased.
Kidney trouble has
become so prevalent
I that it is not uncommon
for a child to be born
’ afflicted with weak kid
neys. If the child urin
ates too often, if the
&
urine scalds the flesh or if, when the child
reaches an age when it should be able to
control the passage, it is yet afflicted with
bed-wetting, depend upon it. the cause of
the difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first
step should be towards the treatment of
these important organs. This unpleasant
trouble is due to a diseased condition of the
kidneys and bladder and not to a habit as
most people suppose.
Women as well as men are made mis
erable with kidney and bladder trouble,
nd both need the same great remedy.

Gilmer Texas.
This is a very pretty, and quite
a business place; has two rail
roads, the Cotton Belt and the
Texas Southern. The tewn is
a sandy nlace, nearly all the
lands are sandy ard very produc
tive and the finest place for
watermelons I ever saw. The
town is full of melons to sell
weighing from 25 to 50 pounds,
price from 10 to 25 cents. '
Stock is cheaper here than
back in Georgia. Can buy Fttle
mules at from SSO to $75. Large
mules and horses are higher.
Corn is 50 cents per bushel,
meat 12i cents per pound, hams
17 cents. The reason meat is so
high nearly everybody lost their
meat last winter on account of
warm weather. It is very warm
here now at times, but generally
there is a cool breeze from the
east or South, which makes it
very pleasant.
This is a great place for pine
lumber. There are 75 saw mills
in Upshur county, one right
here in Gilmer that cuts from
75,000 to 100,000 feet every day.
What is not used here is shipped
to the western part of the state
where there is no timber. Lum
ber has been very high, and is
still high.
Labor is high here, as well as
back at home.
There is land agents here, and
from other places farther west,
selling land and town lots. Land
here is from $5 to $25 per acre in
the country and improved town
lots with good houses are from
SSOO to S6OO. Out on the line of
New Mexico, in the fartherest
portions of Texas, land is from
$1,50 to $1 per acre and in New
Mexico a man can pay sl4 and
file claim on 160 acres and live
on it 5 years and get a deed.
The country in the far westand
i New Mexico is said to be settling
, up very fast.
1 There is one artesian well
I here that affords water for the
town and the water is very good
‘ and the health of this place is
improved, so say the people,
since they commenced to use it.
1 The well has just been bored this
; year. The well is not as deep as
( some artesian wells, but the
water is good soft water.
This is a prohibition county. I
have not seen any whisky since
I have been here, though people
’ drink coca cola and soda water
just the same as the people do in
Georgia.
I was at Sunday school at the

1 have met several old Geor
gians here, Mr. J. M. Cook and
wife and two sons and one daugh
ter, Mr. John Cattlett and Mr.
and Mrs. E. J. Adams and
youngest daughter, and many
others who came here from
Georgia. And they all love old
Georgia yet, but none of them
want to move back to Georgia.
They love Texas and this is a
very easy place to make a living.
The lands are easy to cultivate.
While the boll weevil is here it
hurts the people in making cot
ton, but yet cotton is not the
only thing here to make money
out of. They can raise hay of all
kind, unless it is clover, and pea
nuts, or goober, to beat the world
ami potatoes of all kinds.
I was at an agricultural meet
ing last Monday. The main line
talked here is to let commercial
guanos alone and to use barn
yard and stable manure and not |

Rich and Great is Texas.
Texas is-getting rich. Fact is
Texas is already rich. The tax
able value of real and personal
property in the state for the cur
rent year amounts to $1,579,659,-
611. This shows an increase over
the valuation for the last year of
$358,499,742. The tabulated
statement of the valuations in the
266 counties in the state, as given
in the Galveston News, shows
that there has been an increase
in every county in the state,
while in some it has been as
much as 50 per cent. The state
school tax of twenty 7 cents on the
hundred dollars will yield the
sum of $3 159, 819, or about $4
per capita for the 800,000 children
of school age.

Farmers’ Union Will Engage in Fer
tilizer Business.
The county business agents of
the Farmers’ Union, one hundred
string, met in the Senate Cham
ber Tuesday morning at 10
o’clock to consider the advisabil
ity of purchasing phosphate
mines and engaging in the manu
facture of commercial feitilizers
on a large scale, It is claimed
that thousands of dollars can, be
saved to the farmers annually
through expenditures for fertil
izers.
The meeting Tuesday morning
I was held behind closed doors,
and it was impossible to learn
just what action was taken in ref
erence to the question. It is
understood, however, that the
suggestion met with the hearty
approval of the business agents,
and it is likely that steps will Be

Lightning Roasts a Cow.
Freaks of the electrical storm
in Hatboro, Pa., Thursday were
numerous, but none was more
freakish than the roasting of a
cow in a field near that place.
John Carrol], a farmer, found
one of his most valuable cows
killed in an open field, with no
trees or fences near.
Noticing that the animal was
badly charred, Carroll took a
knife and cut away the charred
part of one quarter. Beneath
the burned meat he found a fine
quality of beef, roasted just right
for eating. He munched several
mouthful and afterwards de
clarred that with pepper and salt
the beef would have been “plen
ty good enough to serve on a
table for dinner.”
