WILL BARR WHITE FLOUR Its Sale in Georgia, will be For bidden Under National Law An order has been issued by the state department of agricul ture forbidding the sale of bleach ed flour in Georgia after October Ist next. This is in line with the. order of the national department forbidding bleaching after May Ist. The extra extension is allowed in Georgia in order that the mil lers may have time to dispose of their bleached stock. It is stated that the millers will cease bleaching at once, which means that after a short while there will be no pure white flour on the Georgia market. The national law prevents any being used in interstate commerce and the state order will stop do mestic manufacture and sale. It is said that 75 to 80 per cent of the flout now sold in Geor gia is bleached by the nitrogen peroxide process because it results in making a whiter flour and enables the mill to use a lar ger portion of the wheat than is the case where flour is not bleach ed. It will readily be, seen, there fore what an extensive effect this order will have on the flour trade in tliis state. Most of the flour mills in Geor gia employ the nitrogen peroxide process in bleaching, They will have to discontinue this and stop the use of expensive plants. It is urged that the use of ni trogen peroxide in bleaching floui has a deleterious effect upon the consumer, and it was for this rea son that the national government forbade its sale. Poe, editor of the Progres sive Farmer, among other things said. But without disparaging the college or university, I would say that first of all, we must give greater attention to the public schools. It is in them that the farmer, the average man, gets his education. We can not Improve our farming until we educate our farmers; we can not develop the south until we develop our south erners. Nor is it enough that we have longer public school terms; we must have better public schools. And we must make them train for life, for practical things. Teach the farm boy how cotton and corn and tobacco may be im proved by seed selection; how a pljjnt feeds, and how soils are exhausted; what elements are found in common feedstuffs, amk which make fat and which make muscle; which cows make money in dairy, and which should be selected for beef—and a thousand other things. Not only should the elements of agriculture be a pub lie school study in the rural dis tricts, but there should be a rev olution in the text books for other studies. Made by city people for city peo ple, the books and teaching have not been adapted to the needs of the counrty children; We shall take a long step forward when the farm boy has proportionate ly fewer problems in arithmetic about foreign exchanges and weights and measures, and more about how to calculate a feeding ration for cows or a fertilizer for mula from certain quantities ot potash, phosphoric, acid and nitro gen, and when he studies propor tionately less about tar away Australia and Kamchatka, and more about the soil that he walks over and plows in every day of his life. GRIPPE VICTIM Restored to Health and Strength by Vlnol Atter all Other Means Had Failed, PROFESSOR HICKS' STORY “I suffered from a severe attack of the grippe which left me in a weakened condition with bronchi tis, a soreness in my chest and a hacking cough. 1 tried different physicians and took nearly every kind of cough syrup sold on the market without getting any per manent relief. 1 saw your cod liver and iron preparation —Vinol advertised, and decided to try it, and it completely cured my bron chial trouble and restored my strength. 1 cannot say too much for Vinol, as I received inexpress ible benefit from its use, and I consider it one of the greatest blessings ever offered to the pub lic.” R. E. R. Hicks, Maplesville, Ala. The grippe invariably leaves in its wake a weakened, run-down condition of the system. Vinol is guaranted to restore the suf ferer to health and strength, and to build up and create strength for old people, delicate children and weak, debilitated people. So sure are we of this that we un hesitatingly say give Vinol a trial. If you think it does you nc good we will refund your money, but it will. Summerville Drug Co., Summerville, Ga. It is far easier to criticise the small mistakes of others than it is not to make a few larger ones yourself. Object to Strong Medicines. Many people object to taking the strong medicies usnally prescribed by physicians for rheumatism. There is no need of internal treatment in any case of muscular or chronic rheuma tism, and more than nine out of every ten cases of the disease «re of one or the other of these varieties. When there is no fever and little (if any) swelling, you may know that it is only necessary to apply Chamberlain’s Liniment freely to get quick relief, Try it. Maloney, of For reston, Texas, sends the following clipping from one of the Texas daily papers giving an account of the death of Judge L. J. Story, who went from this county to Texas in 1845: At 6:20 o’clock this morning, after what appeared to be a slight illness of only a few days’ duration, Leonidas Jefferson Sto rey, chairman of the Texas Rail road Commission died at his home in Austin of heart failure, super induced by la grippe. Judge Storey was 75 years of age. He had devoted the greater part of his life to the public ser vice, and in his career as a law yer, magistrate, legislator in both branches, Lieutenant Governor and Railroad Commissioner, he won and held the confidence of the people and a reputation for care, ability and integrity such as few men have enjoyed. Dur ing his fifteen years of service on the Railroad commission he was twice chairman. Conserva tive in the discharge of his offi cial duties, he believed in doing justice both to the people and to the railroads, a policy which was so strongly put by his distinguish ed contemporary, the late Judge John 11. Reagan. As chairman of the commission he spared no pains to make it an efficient tri bunal of the people. Judge Storey was born in Chat tooga county, Georgia, Oct. 6th, 1834. He was of Sehoteh-Irish lin eage his immediate ancestorshav ing come to America during the early Colonial days. His great grandparents participated in the war of the American Revolution and his grandfather and father were in the War of 1812. His father, Col. John T. Storey, was born in Virginia, July 1, 1796, and was married to Miss Lucy McLester of North Caroli na in 1818. Judge Storey’s moth er was a sister of the late Capt. Harvey McLester, long a resident of Bastrop, later of Austin. Col. Storey, soon after his marriage, moved to Jackson county, Geor gia, and afterwards moved to a place on the Chattooga river, 3 miles north of Summerville and about thirty miles west of Rome, in what was then the Cherokee Nation, but is now Chattooga county. Col. Storey represented his district for several terms in the State Senate; commanded the regiment that moved the Chero kees to the west of the Mississip pi in 1838; visited Texas in 1839 and bought land near Seguin. He moved to the Republic ol Tex as in 1845 shortly before it sur rendered its nationality and be came a part of the American Un ion, settling in Gonzales county, and later, in 1847, at Lockhart, known then as Lockhart Springs. His son, L. J. Storey, completed his education at Austin College at Huntsville; read law in the office of Rogan & White at Lock hart in 1857-58; was admitted to the bar in October, 1858; prac ticed law for twenty-eight years thereafter as a member of the firm of Nix & Storey and later practiced from 1886 as the sen ior member of the firm ot Storey & Storey, until appointed a mem- 1 ber of the Railroad Commission in 1894. Best Treatment for Colds. “Most ordinary colds will yield to the simplest treatment,’’ says the Chicago Tribune, “moderative laxa tives, hot foot baths, o free perspira tion and an avoidance of exposure to cold and wet after treatment.” While this treatnß"®t (a simple, it requires considerable trouble, and the one adopting it must remain in doors for a day or two, or a fresh cold is almost sure to be contracted, and in many in stances pneumonia follows. Is it not better to pin your faith to an old re liable preparation like Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy, that is famous for its cures of colds and can always be de pended upon?
