VOL. XXII NO. 9.
MLNLO
The farmer had better consid
er well the proposition of buying
dollar corn with eight cent cot- ;
ton before giving all his land
and energy to the cultivation of
a cotton crop.
Last Friday evening we had the
hardest rain and hail that ever
fell in this section. The hail
stones were the largest I ever saw
and did a great deal of damage
to fruit and other crops. Some
strawberries and peach fields wer<
practically ruined; gardens were
badly damaged and a number of
glass windows were broken.
T. 11. Knox made a business
trip to Chattanooga last week.
There were one hundred .and
twelve crates of strawberries
shipped from Menlo last Friday.

ular appointments here Sunday
and Sunday night.

load of cattle last week.

The Ladies Church Circle of
the Methodist church gave quite
an enjoyable, as well as profita
ble, entertainment at the home of
Mn. Arnold Tompkins Saturday
evening, May 1. 'Twas a Meas
uring party. One hundred and
ten guests were present, and the
contribution of many friends from
the Atlantic to the Pacific—and
from the Great Lakes to the Gulf
They realized $53.92, with an ex
pense of not more than $5. They
appreciate every gift from the
“six-foot” down tothe “two.’
Games of different kinds help
ed amuse the crowd, especially
interesting was the sentence build
ing game. Each person on en
tering received a ticket with a
number admitting the holder in
to the dining room, on one side;
and a word on the other. The
word had to be woven into a
quotation. “Thinking Caps”
were hurriedly donned and worn
most of the evening. Our wits
were sharpened and hard work
it was to place yourself. Music
was furnished at intervals through
out the evening. Excellent re
freshments were served.
The evening was a social as
well as financial success. “For
sake not the assembling of your
selves together,” was a happy
quotation for the occasion.
Won’t Slight a Good Friend.
“If ever I need a cough medi
cine again I know what to get,”
declares Mrs. A. L. Alley of Beals
Me., “«for after using ten bottles
of Dr. King’s New Discovery,
and seeing its excellent results
in my own family and others, I
am convinced it is the best medi
cine made for Coughs, Colds and
lung trouble.” Every one who
tries it feels just that way. Re
lief is felt at once and its quick
cure surprises you. For Bronchi
tis, Asthma, Hemorrhage, Croup.
