Dr. Harbin came up from Rome Monday evening to see Mr. Bry an Irwin. Miss Nettie Espy of Dry Valley is spending a few days the guest of her sister, Mrs. S. AL Wade. Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Cochran and children spent Saturday and Sunday with relatives at Lindale. Mrs. Carrie Elder of Chicka mauga was the guest of Mrs. E. Bryant Tuesday. Mrs. J. McWhorter of Broom town is visiting her sister, Mrs. T. J. Simmons. “Try Merritt’s Tomatoes. They are all good, sound ripe stock and no water.” Air. and Mrs. T. J. Simmons are now at home in their new residence on Church street. r Mr. T. P. Henry and Mrs. Car rie Elder visited their brother, Mr. W. F. Henry, at Chelsea last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. 11. Penn are visiting relatives and friends in Atlanta. They left for that eity Wednesday. Dr. Irwin of Calhoun came Sunday to see his brother, Mr. Bryan Irwin, who has been criti cally ill for the past few days Miss Mary Penn delightfully entertained a number of friends Tuesday evening at her attrac tive home three miles north of of town. Miss Allie Rhineheart came down from Chattanooga Saturday to visit relatives and friends, and Sunday' afternoon. Mr. Oscar Perry' of Chattanoo ga spent Sunday here with Air. and Mrs. Roland. Mr. Perry is a son of Col. Augustus Perry, a former resident of Summerville, who moved from here soon af ter the close of the civil war. . The many friends here of Miss Bessie Godwin, who has been se riously ill of appendicitis in Bir mingham, were glad to hear by ’phone message Tuesday that her physicians have hopes of her recovery. Merritt will give you a sample can of his Tomatoes if you will call at his factory near Chelsea. The University Summer School for Teachers will begin a five weeks’ term June 28th. A very able faculty is announced. Any teacher may get a Bulletin of in formation from the office of the County School Commissioner, or upon request made to the Super intendent of the School, Athens, Ga. This school is one of the best in the South and one of the least expensive.—S. E. Jones, C. S. C. Mr. R. L. Rolland, who has been superintending the erection of the court house here, left with his family Wednesday for Fitzgei aid, Ga., where he goes to super intend the erection of another court house. During their stay in Summerville Mr. and Mrs Rol land made many friends who re gret their departure. Hon. Moses Wright has been in great demand as a commence ment orator during the past three or four weeks. Last week he spoke at Pine Log, Bartow county, at Menlo, in Chattooga county, at Berry School and at other places. Next week he is scheduled to speak at Calhoun on Friday, at Trion on May 24 j and Cartersville May 26.—Ron < i Tribune-Herald, The Installation Service The service at the Pesbyterian church (Sunday morning was largely attended and full of in terest. Rev. B. F. Guille of Men lo preached an excellent sermon from the text “If ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.” The personality of the Spirit, His mission to man, and the liberty of the Christian were discussed in strong, forceful words. After the sermon Rev. J. C. Hardin was installed as pas tor; Rev. B. F. Guille conducted the installation, and Rev. J. 11. Clark delivered the charge to the pastor. On account of continuous rain the' evening service was not so well attended, but those who were present were amply repaid for going. Rev. J. 11. Clark preached an impressive sermon from the text, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” NOTICE The State examination will be held June 18th and 19. Th'e annual Institute will be gin June 14th. We expect to have some of the best talent of Georgia at this meeting. The Honorable Jere Al. Pound, Pres ident Soule, Judge Moses Wright and other distinguished men will be present and address the people of Chattooga county dur ing the institute. A program wil be published later. We invite every body who pos sibly can to attend this meeting. Teachers will please sued in their reports for March and April who haven’t already done so. NOTICE The school trustees of Summer ville district request all the pat rons and friends, male and fe male, of the school to meet al the Hiles Hall at 3 o’clock p. in. Fri day next, May 14th, to discuss matters of interest to the school and, incidentally, an amendment to our town charter and the erec tion of a new school building. The school teachers of the state will be paid a second 10 per cent of the money due them the latter part of this month. Preparations were being made to make this payment, amounting to approxi mately $225,000, at the time of the death of the state treasurer. There is sufficient money in the treasury with which to make the payment and, it is stated, it will be paid just as soon as the new treasurer goes into office and has the authority to make disburse ments.
