Miss Evelyn Fox and Miss Kath ryn Bolling enjoyed a day on Dirtseller Tuesday. The many friends here of Miss Lucile Scruggs will he pained to learn that she is seriously ill at her home in Odessa, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. John Henry went over to Chelsea Monday to Chelsea Monday to attend the funeral of Mr. Frank Henry. Mr. and Mrs. 15. R. Broom and children spent Saturday and Sun day with re at Ives near Subligna. John Cleghorn went up to La fayette Sund - afternoon in his automobile, a, ompanied by Rev. 11. S. Smith, and Frank Kirby. Mrs. S. S. Lawrence of Menlo spent Monday in town. Mrs. Willaimson arrived yester day from Chicago and is at the bedside of her mother, Mrs. Mar shall, who, is seriously ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. 11. Edmondson. Mr. Walter Housch of Chicka mauga spent Sunday with home folks and was one of the passen gers in the wreck near Martin dale, but received no injuries. Misses Josephine Pitts returned from Rome Tuesday accompanied by Miss Annie Pitts-, who will spend her vacation at home much to the delight of a large number of Summerville friends. It is said that some of our wide a-wake citizens refused to sleep Monday night in order to hear and enjoy the musical chimes of the city clock, which was placed on duty that night. Among those from this place who expect to attend the old sol diers’ reunion at Memphis next week are, Dr. R. Y. Rudicil 11. A. Brownrteld, T. P. Henry, G. J. Wilson, J. N. Rush, A. E. Strange, S. B. Henley, M. M. Allen, Sol Alexander and J. 11. Dodd. Mrs. W. M. Nebh and two chil dren, who have been visiting the the family of Mr. G. A. Kling, near Menlo, for some time, left Tuesday for their home in St. Paul Mimi. Mr. Kling accompa nied them as far as Chattanooga. All ladies and children interest ed in Bethel seltc.ol are urged to give their names to Miss Lillie Gaines or Miss Mat lie Jones for membership to the Bethel school improvement club. Rev. Jesse O. Brand made an address at the Academy Monday evening, which was heard by a large and appreciative audience. Other interesting features of the occasion was delightful music, an splendid reading by Miss McCol lum. Mr. and Mrs. 1. M. Henderson went, over to Dalton Thursday on a visit to the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Hnmmontree. Mr. Henderson returned home Mon day but his wife will remain in Dalton for several days. The pupils of Summerville Acad emy are hard at work this week on examination papers. They cer.ainly deserve larger and more comfortable quarters. Mr. Dock Hartline of James town, Ala., and Miss Love Akins of Dry Valley were guests of Miss Ethel Housch Sunday. Among the Odd Fellows from the Summerville lodge who went over to Chelsea Monday to at tend the funeral of Mr. Frank Henry were, C. P. Neal, W. R. Harper, S. C. Martin, John Cleg horn, Frank Elder, A. 11. Glenn, J. 11. Pollard, A. W. Jenkins, S. C. Hall, Charlie Bryant, Gordon Allen and Sam Maloney. The many friends of Mrs. G. D. Selman charmingly entertained at a “spend-the-day party” Tuesday, in honor of Mrs. ('laud Williams of Atlanta. Those present were, Mrs. Low ry Lamb, Mrs. J. A. Branner, Mrs. J. 31. Bellali, Mrs. A. 8. Hinton, Mrs, W. W. Hinton, Mrs. W. B. Hinton, Miss Mary Penn and Mrs. Claud Williams. The case of Will Howt-11, charg ed with selling liquor, was tried before the town council Tuesday afternoon. Howell was recently tried and convicted before May; or Rivers and a fine of $25 and cost was assessed against him. He appealed the case to council. The. decision of the mayor was sus tained by council and Howell was' tained by council and Howell has paid the fine and cost. The mayor held in abeyance, the al ledged offence against the state on promise of good behavior in future. The people of the town are al most unanimous in lending their support to 1 the authorities in their efforts to completely suppress the liquor traffic. 11. 11.
