I Woman's Friend I Nearly all women suffer at times from female I ailments. Some* women suffer more acutely and B more constantly than others. But whether you have I little pain or whether you suffer intensely, you p should take Wine of Cardui and get relief. ‘ ' y Cardui is a safe, natural medicine, for women, || prepared scientifically from harmless vegetable in-B gradients. She writes: ft “Cardui has done more for me than I can describe. Last spring Ift ■ was taken with female inflammation and consulted a doctor, but to n Eg no avail, so I took Cardui, and inside of three days, I was able to do ft fc?| my housework. Since then my trouble has never returned.” Try it. ft AT ALL DRUG STORES COUNTED IN MILLIONS Are the Human Beings Attend ing Sunday School “How many officers and teach ers of Sunday Schools, for in stance, do you suppose there are in the United States? Only 1,- 459,535. But it’s when it comes to the matter of pupils that the figures talk in a lone of voice to be heard across the continent, 12,272,657. There’s a figure to hold a statistician spell-bound— ami remember, it doesn’t signify dollars; it stands for human b e ings brought together by a pur pose to teach and to study the Bible, to give serious thought to the principles of morality and of the Christian faith.” Those astounding figures con cerning the Sunday schools of the United States are given by the Woman’s World to emphasize a plea in the July number that is remarkable for secular magazines nowadays, a reminder that, “af ter all , dollars are not the whole measure of man’s attain ment.” Buying a small safe for $2 at a public sale over thirty years ago Ex-Coroner Nathaniel Con way of Seaford, Del., has come into a fortune. At the time of the purchase Conway stored the safe in his stable. Last week he broke the lock with a hammer. To his amazement gold coins of different denominations began rolling from the safe. The noise attracted 1 a crowd, and from the outside Conway was seen gath ering it in bags. Conway refus ed to say how much gold the safe contained, but says he can live the rest of his days in luxury. A Night Rider’s Raid. The worst night riders are calomel, croton oil or aloes pills. FROM A CHICAGO DOCTOR. Di. George W. Webster, pres ident of the Illinois State Board of Health, said in an address to the Cook County W. C. T. U. in session in Chicago a short time ago: “When the physicians take hold of the question of alcohol ism in the same spirit they have shown concerning yellow fever, malaria and smallpox, instead of treating it as a moral question and leaving it to clergymen, tem perance workers and enthusias tic reformer's, we may expect bet ter results. And more may be aeomplished by teaching the peo ple the truth in regard to the fa tal effects of alcohol upon men tal and physical efficiency, by telling them that it is a poison and should he so classified in stead of a food or stimulant, than by expatiating on the moral wickedness of drinking.” At the same time the speaker said tltat the profession deserved con demnation when it assumed tlu attitude of sneering contempt for the efforts of clergymen, laymen enthusiasts and reformers to •.lamp out this evil. He regards alcoholism as a preventable dis ease, but not having been pre vented, it must be dealt with as •summarily as smallpox or yellow fever. More Wheat and Less Cotton. It is gratifying to note the re vival of interest, says the At lanta Georgian, which the farm ers of Georgia are beginning to take in the cultivation of the' ce reals. From time immemorial we have devoted our best farming lands to cotton; and, while the soil of the south is peculiarly adapted l to the growth of the royal staple, it is an expensive policy to spe cialize upon this one particular crop when we are forced there by to pay enormous tribute to other sections for grain. An object lesson in the folly of this false principle of econo mies is presented by the recent rise in the price of wheat. Notwithstanding the skyward tendencies which have character ized the market quotations for months, our farmers have been obliged to pay the price. It has been a case of Hobson’s choice. And in every instance they have been compelled to relinquish the hard cash. But why continue to pay this unnecessary toll? Even if it be true that we can not compete with the grain pro ducing states of the middle west, is there any sound or valid rea son why we should not raise of wheat and oats whatever we need for home consumption? Some of us have no intelligent appreciation of the wealth of fer tility which or soil really possess es. We are simply the victims of old fogyism. We need to avail ourselves of the modern ideas which are being taught in the agricultural schools. And, thanks to the change which has eorfic over the spirit oi’ our people within the past few years, it is possible for the next generation to profit by the mis takes of the last. Diversification of crops is the talismanic formula which spells prosperity lot tile industrious farmers of Dixie. What makes women so good is trying to shame men out of be ing so bad. If the government would put a tax on grouches’it wouldn’t need to increase the tariff on lemons. People are not necessarily good because they feel that way. A barking dog never bites while barking. Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera and Di arrhoea Remedy the best and Surest “It affords me pleasure to state that I consider the preparation known as Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy the best and sur est of good results of any I have ever used in my family,” says P. E. Her rington, Mount Aerial, Ky. This is the universal verdict of all who use this remedy. Its cures are so prompt and effectual that people take pleas ure in recommending it. One writer says: Reports, confirmed by experi ence, indicate that the use of lightning rods is very satisfacto ry, and the value of the ’phone in summoning help in emergen cy is inestimable. Among the things that should be taught every child as a part of his religion are to avoid a draught by keeping doors clos ed in a burning building and what to do in ease the clothing is ig nited. A young girl whose dressing sack caught fire from a . particle of match flying on it, undoubt edly saved her life by jumping into bed and smothering the flames in her clothing. Edged tools should never Im left lying about or hanging care lessly in trees. The garden rake left teeth upward on the ground was the cause of a very painful and dangerous' accident to _ a barefoot boy, and in another case the oil can. standing where last used, caused the instant death of the child who fell upon it. The employment of children to operate dangerous machinery is restricted by law. yet boys who fall short of the required age of ten run the mowing* machine, feed the cutting box. or possibly work about a buzz saw, and men suf fer the loss of life or limb from the same source through gross carelessness. Vicious animals a.re poor prop erty and if kept at all should be confined beyond all possibility of escape, which is very difficult. Better trained horses, sale har ness and wagons, and more sen sible drivers would result in fewer runaways, and occasional attention to the stable floors might mean the saving of a val uable animal. As to firearms, until the boy is old enough to know their use, better buy him a camera to hunt, with instead of a gun, The use of the former will bring him in to closer accord with nature in stead of making him her enemy and its accidental discharge when it “wasn’t loaded,” will not, be disastrous. Much inconvenience often re sults from contact with poison ous plants, especially with poison ivy. This is easily dis guished from the. Virginia creep er, the former having a three part leaf, while the. latter has a five-part. Bathing the effected parts in buttermilk immediately will often prevent the eruption. The best pills made arc DeWitt's Little Early Risers, Hie famous little liver pills. They are small, gentle, pleasant, easy to take and act. prompt ly. They are sold by all druggists. A Change of Tune. A furniture van stood in front of a house. A little boy stood by the horse and gave it some bread to eat. The driver looked on with a broad grin. “That’s right,” said he to the young benefactor; “always be kind, to dumb animals. Look how the old. horse enjoys it. But does your mother always give you big chunks like that?” “No,” replied the youngster; “I didn’t get that from my mother.” “Where did you get it, then?” “It was lying in the van.” Here the driver flew into a tem per and bawled out: “Why, that was my breakfast, you miserable rascal, you!” The poor lad, doomed thus early in life to a practical experience of the sudden vicissitudes of popular favor, flew from the scene.—London Tit-Bits.
