MAKE RACE FOR CONGRESS
North Georgia Citizen
Congrcsaman Gordon Lee will make
the race for congress again. This is
the first authentic statement concern
ing Mr. Lee’s candidacy for re
election to congress. It comes from
a man who is in close touch with
Mr. !,<■<■ and the person who In
formed a Citizen representative of
Mr. Lee's determination, stated that
this paper could make th<- announce
ment as positive.
Congrensrnan Lee would not commit
himself. When asked, he refused to
state that h<- would b>- hi the race;
but he did way he was seriously con
sidering the question. Among other
things, he said
“I have been deeply moved by
many warm expressions of interest in
my course from all parts of the dis
trlct, and especially from the good
old counties of Whitfield and Mur
ray, when everybody seems to be
my friend. Having stated, both pub
licly and privately, that 1 did not
Intend standing for election again,
and having made all my business ar
rangements accordingly, it is with,
reluctance that I even consider a
change from that course. Nothing
but Hie conviction that it is my du
ty to answer the call of the people
and serve them another term, if they
so desire, shall move me to announce
for re-election.
”1 am giving the question the care
ful and painstaking investigation and
consideration Its importance demands
and will very soon give the good
people who have so signally honor
ed me a final answer.”
'l'lie person who Informed The Citi
zen that Mr. Lee would surely make
tlie race, stated that Mr. Lee would
make formal announcement of his
candidacy within the next few weeks.
Mr. Lee has made this district
an ideal representative In congress.
Hard working, determined to get. what
Im goes after, he lias done more for
Mie district during the time he lias
served it than any other congress
man ever did In the same length of
time.
From all over the district have
come requests that lie again offer
for election.
It is safe to Hay that the district
| lias never had a more popular con
'gressnmn, and his popularity is go
ing to be shown beyond the shadow
jof a doubt when ills majority is made
known after the next election.
Following is the “disfanchise
meut” clause of the qualifications to
register and vote: All persons who
can correctly read in the English
language any paragraph of the con
stitution of the United States or of
this state and correctly write the
same in the English language when
read to them by one of the regis
trars, and all persons who solely be
cause of physical disability are una
ble to comply with the above require
ments, but who can understand and
in an after-dinner speech a Mis
souri orator got off the following:
"If all the chickens in Missouri were
one rooster, he could straddle the
Rocky Mountains like a great Co
lossus, and crow until he shook the
rings from the planet Saturn. If
all the hogs raised in Missouri were
one hog, he could plant his hind
feet on the soil of Cuba, his fore
feet on tlie Isthmus of Panama and
with one root of his huge snout dig
|a sea-lev<q canal from ocean to
ocean.”
Cook says he did it. Peary says
he did it. but the chances are neith

most searching and finding remedy
—there is no doubt after taking—as
sure as you take it you get results.

Ex-President Roosevelt has some
times been ridiculed and sometimes
i censured for "butting in” on every
i subject under the sun, but he was
• usually managed to be on the right ,
side and to say the right thing, es
i pecially when discussing questions}
relating to the moral well-being of
society. Here is a word, for exam
ple, with regard to the training of
I boys, which contains the very es
! sence of the problem of making men
better. He says:
“If you are going to do anything ■
permannet for the average man you i
have got to begin before he is a
man. The chance of success lies in
working with the boy and not with,
the man. That, applies peculiarly to i
those boys who tend to drift off into!
courses which mean that, unless they ,
are checked, they will be formidable,
additions to the criminal population
I when they grow older.
"No nation is safe unless in the !
average family there are healthy, hap ■
py children. if these children are
j not brought up well are not mere
• ly a curse to themselves and their!
I parents, but they mean the ruin of
‘ the state in the future.”
i These are wise words, and they |
i: ought to appeal strongly to every j
i father and mother to look well to
■ the morals of their boys. The wise
king said: "Train up a child ini
■ the way he should go, and when he

REMEDY FOR SAN JOSE SCALE.
Black Fungus is Said to be Ekiemy
of Dreaded Pest.
| Atlanta, Ga. —In the accidental dis
covery of the black fungus, peach
growers believe they have at last
found a successful remedy for the
San Jose scale, one of the worst foes
|of the orchard. •
This fungus was first discovered in
■ Florida, where orange growers used it
:in combating a certain infection in
their groves. It grows on the limbs
of trees and produces a light feathery
growth which the wind blows to other
trees. This growth, thus blown by
the wind, lands on the scale-infected
trees and kills the scale.
Hitherto orchardmen have depended
on sprays to kill the scale. This
method is not infallible, and is very
i expensive. The fungus eliminates ex
i pense and works its own cure with
! out aid.
