Women Suffer Agonies
from Diseased Kidneys
And Most Women Do This Not Knowing the
Real Cause of their Condition
These poor, suffering women
have been led to believe that their
misery of mind and body is entire
ly due to “ills of their sex.” Usually
the kidneys and bladder are re
sponsible—or largely so. And in
such cases, the kidneys and blad
der are the organs, that need and
must have attention.
Those torturing, enervating sick
headaches, dragging pains in back,
groin and limbs, bloating and swell
ing of the extremities, extreme
nervousness or hysteria, listless
ness and constant tired, worn-out
feeling—are almost certain symp
toms of disordered jnd diseased
kidneys, bladder and liver.
DeWitt’s Kidney and Bladder
Pills have, In thousands of cases,
been demonstrated as remarkably
beneficial in all such conditions of
female organism—affording the
most prompt relief and permanent
benefit.
As an Illustration of what these
Pills will do, Mrs. P. M. Eray of
Columbus, Ga., writes that she was
very ill with kidney trouble, and
that she is now well —and that
these Pills are what cured her.
They are very pleasant to take,
and can in no case, produce any
deleterious effects upon the system

PELLAGRA CAUSED BY WATER
Pellagra, the new disease which
. has been followed by many deaths
throughout the country, and espe
cially in the south, is due to impure
water, according to army surgeons.
Careful study of pellagra has been
made by Surgeons Joseph F. Siler
and Henry J. Nichols at the Illinois
state general hospital for the insane
at Peoria, 111., and the reports have
been reported to the surgeon-general
of the army. It has been found that
spoiled corn, or corn that has fer
mented, does not cause the trouble.
It appears that patients afflicted with
pellagra have first undergone an
affection of the intestinal tract re
sembling dysentery.

WINTER OATS
Press Bulletin No. 19, State College
Os Agriculture.
At present there is only one acre
of winter oats grown in the state of
Georgia to every eighteen or twenty
acres of corn or cotton. It is quite
true the wet season often comes at
the time when the oats are ready to
harvest and, therefore interferes with
the cultivation of this crop on
an extensive scale. It is a crop,
however, that under proper treatment
gives large yields in the state of
Georgia, and when we consider its
value as a grain for work stock
when fed alone or with corn as part •
of the grain ration, or when grown (
in combination with winter vetch for;
the production of hay or simply us
ed as a cover of winter, there is
good reason to believe that the acre
age of winter oats in Georgia
should be at least doubled.
There are only a few varieties of
winter oats on the market. The va
riety givnig the best yield at the Col
lege in 1909 was the Texas Rust
Proof oat, yielding 64.46 bushels per I
acre. The Culberson oat came next
with a yield of 60 bushels per acre,
followed by Bancroft, Appier and
Virginia Gray with a yield of 58, 53
| and 40 bushels per acre respective
ly.
The Culberson oat is a new variety ;
and a fairly good yielder. Its good
points are early maturity and stiff i
straw. The grain of this oat is very
small and some do not like it on that
account.
Plant Good Seed.
A test of three different samples
of Texas Rust Proof oats from dif
ferent dealers gave the following re
sults: 64.46, 46 and 40 bushels per
acre respectively. Some of the oat
seed offered for sale is not fit
to sow and this point should be care- j
fully considered in buying seed of
any variety.
Date of Seeding.
Texas Rust Proof oat seeded Octo- j
ber 15th and November 21st gave
a yield of 64.46 and 40 bushels per 1
acre respectively. Culberson oat
seeded on the same dates gave a
yield of 60 and 20.33 bushels respect
ively. These results go to show the
importance of seeding rather early in
the fall. Winter oats are not so
choice about soils as some other
crops, but the better the soil the
larger the yield. As a rule, the open
furrow system of seeding oats is the
best, but large yields can be secured
on soils in a high state of fertility
by seeding with the ordinary grain
drill.
A good fertilizer formula for oats
at sowing time is the following:
Acid Phosphate 200 pounds
Muriate Potash .. .. 50 pounds
Nitrate of Soda .. ..25 pounds
Cotton seed meal .. .. 200 pounds
Nitrate of soda in the spring as
a top dressing .. .. 75 pounds

“There’s a new game out, says
the Waverly Democrat, called ‘tickle
the editor.’ You take an ordinary
sheet of writing paper, on which you
pen a few lines suitable for the occa
sion. Next you fold it carefully, en
closing in the fold a banknote suf
ficiently large to pay arrearages and
a year in advance, and hand it to
the editor. Keep an eye on him, and
if a smile adorns his face the trick
works fine. It can also be played by
mail. Come on, let’s have a game.”
