COUNTY FAIR
OFFICERS NAMED
An enthusiastic meeting was held
at the courthouse Friday afternoon
in the interest of the annual fair of
Chattooga county.
After a short address by Dr. 0.
A. Selman stating the object of the
meeting, B. W. Farrar was ap
pointed chairman of the meeting and
) the following officers were elected.
J. Espy, president; E. N. Martin,
vice-president; F. F. Chapman, gen
eral manager; W. L. Abbott, secre
tary; Henry McWhorter, treasurer;
Miss Beulah Shropshire, general
manager ladies department.
The. president was authorized to
appoint an executive committee,
and the following gentlemen were
named as members of this commit
tee: Sam Pollock, Geo. D. Espy, O.
A-. Selnian, Wesley Shropshire and
D. C.
The meeting adjourned until Mon
day afternoon and at this meeting
the officers and executive committee
appointed the following committees.

A meeting of the board of direc
tors has been called for Monday,
April 21, at 2 p.m., at the courthouse,
and tall the directors are urged to
be at this meeting for the purpose
of adopting plans for the biggest
fair Chattooga county has ever had.

Clean-Up Week
Begins April 15th.
Tuesday April 15 has been des
ignated as “Clean-up Day.” All cit
izens are called upon to co-operate
with the city authorities in an ef
fort to rid the city of all rubbish,
cans, broken glass, and other un
sightly things.
Assemble all rubbish in some re
ceptacle and place it where it can
be reached by truck.
The city will furnish trucks and
they will start Wednesday morning
the 16th.

a great ge. -her occasion for
the grown-ups . .id a happy time for
the youngsters.
It gives our farmers an opportun
ity to exhibit their products in
friendly competition to their neigh
bor and at the same time draw a
handsome cash prize for their trou
ble, should they be winner. It also
gives the various other industries,
enterprises, domestic and fancy
work exhibitors the same privilege.
The farmers have the advantage of
B. M. Drake, county farm demonstra
tor’s services free, and with his co
operation should have a wonderful
array of farm exhibits this time.
The schools of the county are in
vited and urged to make their plans
for exhibits of their work and athle
tics at the fair this fall.

The Georgia Sunday School as
sociation is offering two banners —
one to the school with the largest
number present in proportion to the
distance traveled, and the other to
the school having the largest num
ber of officers and teachers present
in proportion to the distance travel
ed, provided 75 per cent of them are
in attendance. This convention
means much to the Sunday schools
of the county, and we are very .anx
ious that every officer and teacher
be present. Let’s make this the,
best convention ever held in Chat
tooga county.
Emory Glee Club
Coming April 15th
The Emory University Glee club
of Atlanta, will come to Summer
ville on the night of Tuesday, April
15. This Glee club is composed of
42 members and is said to have some
of the sweetest singers in the south.
Make your arrangements to come
and hear them.
Trion Youth Killed
Near Knoxville, Tenn.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., April I.
Charles Crowder, 18, of Trion, Ga.,
Was killed when he fell between the
cars of a freight train near New
market Sunday.
Crowder and another youth were
attempting to steal a ride to Knox
ville when the fatal accident hap
pened.
LaFayette Glee
Club at Auditorium
Friday April 4th.
The LaFayette Dramatic and Glee
club will present an entertainment
Friday evening at 8 p.m., at Sum
merville school auditorium. Benefits

METHODIST CHURCH NEWS
The second quarterly conference
for the Summerville-Menlo charge
will be held at Summerville the third
Sunday in April, Easter Sunday.
Revival sesrvices are announced
to begin at the Menlo Methodist
church the first Sunday in August,
and at the Summerville Methodist
church the third Sunday in August.
A large delegation from Summer
ville and Menlo are expected to at
tend the Dalton district Sunday
school conference to be held at Trion
next Monday.
Fresh bread and cakes daily at

DILL PROPERTY
SOLD TUESDAY
The entire holdings of M. P. Dill
& Co., of Gore, were re-sold at pub
lic sale by Jno. D. Taylor, receiver,
Tuesday, bringing a total of approx
imately $25,000. This property was
sold sometime ago but for some
reason the sale was cancelled. This
sale is subject to the court confirma
tion. The largest item consisted of
the home place lands and included
the store house land gin house, which
was bought by Geo. Morton for
$14,650.00.
The Kilgore place was bought in
by Mr. Ponder for $2,600.00.
The stock of merchandise was
bought my Russell Baker for thirty
two cents on the dollar.
Otherl items sold included live
stock, tools and farm implements
and was bought by several different
parties.
- HIDDEN CHECK CONTEST
The Hidden Check Contest inaug
urated by The News two weeks ago,
continues to create a great deal of
interest. There was a large crowd
at the Chattooga County Bank last
Saturday morning to look for the
cheek. After some fifteen or twenty
minutes search it was finally locat
ed by Tom Lee Morton.
Read the ads closely and see if
you can find wheret the check; is
hidden this week. You may look
for the check after 10 o’clock Satur
day morning.
NOTICE
The Presbyterians desire to ex
press their appreciation of the cour
tesy and kindness of their Metho
dist and Baptist friends during the
time they have oeen without a
church building, and especially
the Methodist for the use of then
church building, and to the board of
roads and revenues for the use of
the courthouse. Also they wish to
remit any incidental expense con
nected with the favors shown.

I take this method of thanking
the many loyal friends throughout
the county who supported me in the
recent primary. Although 1 failed
to get the nomination tor sheriff,
the splendid vote given me is a
source of much pleasure and grati
