Able to go to work next day
after simple home treatment
As William IT. Avey of Rutland, Ver
mont, stepped from his ear about
three o’clock in the afternoon, his left
foot felt sore, and by five o’clock he
could not step on it.
"I sent for a bottle of Sloan’s Lini
ment,” he writes, “and bathed it once
every half hour. At ten-thirty, I could
step on it and walk, and the next
morning 1 went back to work.’’
Active people everywhere tell of
nurn< rous instances <>( the amazingly i
quick and complete relief that Sloan’s
has given to sprains, wrenches, bruises
in fact every kind of muscular pain.
It doesn’t just deaden the nerves.
Ry sp<?eding up the circulation it
helps the body to throw off the cause
of the pain.

The besketball teams will soon b
gin to have regular practice. We are
hoping to have good teams, both boys
and girls. Games will be scheduled
with the best teams in this section of
•the state and we hope to win the ma
jority. The public is asked to help the
teams win. Attend the games and sup
port Summerville High school teams.
Before a player can participate in
any match game a passing grade
must be made in at least three-fourths
of the studies pursued, and deport
ment must be satisfactory.

The first meeting of the Chattooga j
County Education association was
held at the court house last Saturday j
with a very good attendance. Officers )
for the ensuing year were elected and
business matters attended to. Supt ,
R. G. Vinson, of Summerville, was re-j
elected president; Supt. 11. O. Thomas (
of Gore, was elected vice-president,,
and Miss Mary Hunt, of Gore, secre
tary and treasurer. The program com-|
mittce will be announced at an early(
date,
Short talks were made by several
of the teachers and superintendents
and plan for the year were discussed.
Topics of interest to all the teachers
of the county were suggested for dis
cussion during the year, among which
was school consolidation.
We hope to have a wide-awake or
ganization so that we can accomplish
some good results. In order for the
association to be a success we shall
need the cooperation of the school (
people of the county. It is the duty of (
every teacher and school worker to
take an active interest in the organ
ization. ('
No dues arc charged for member-(

member should become a member of;
the state organization and receive

Concerning Mid-Week Entertainments
By observation we have found that'
pupils cannot take part in mid-week i
entertainments and parties without
very seriously hindering their school
work. Pupils indulging in such show
very clearly that their work is not up
to the standard, especially on the
clays immediately following the enter
tainments and pleasure-seeking par
ities. We have noticed upon numerous
[occasions, that pupils who have at
tended entertainments, parties, etc.,
(on the night before are not prepared
(to recite lessons and consequently
make a grade considerably below a
passing mark. Each lesson that is un-

prepared leave a gap in the pupil’s
school life
It is natural for young people to
want to follow the paths of least re
sistance and to indulge in pastimes
that are full of pleasure and joy, but
; they should learn to so arrange their
schedules so that there will be no con
flict between duty and pleasure. The
! mid-week social activities should be
discontinued and these activties ar
ranged for the week-end.
! The superintendent and authorities
lof Summerville public schools have
gone on record as favoring the plac
ing of social activties during the week
ends. No school social gathering will
be permitted during the week, but
will be confined to Friday and Satur
day nights. No teacher will assist in
any social activity that requires them
to take any pupil or pupils away from
home on a night during the school
week. The parents are asked to as
sist in this by having the boys and
, 1 girls arrange their programs so that
they may be free to study during the
I nights of the week. Os course, the
■ school officials have no authority to
say that pupils cannot have parties
during the week, but if any are given
then they will be strictly private and
not a school affair. We hope that all
parents will cooperate with us and
have the pupils use the week nights
for study.
During this present year we have
1 allowed some few entertainments to
I interfere with the night study of pu
pils but these will be discontinued at
I an early date. Owing to the fact that
(some of the schools participating in
I the spelling matches could not attend
'on Friday nights, we agreed to hold
I them on Thursday nights, and anoth-|
|er reason for doing this was to be [
' ale to get the Trion orchestra to fur-1
nish music for some of the contests.
.After the spelling matches we shall I
confine our programs to the week-end I
except that we might have programs)
on a holiday or the night preceding, j
All the basketball games will be |
(played on Friday and Saturday nights
and the nights on which the teams
practice the players will return to
their homes at an early hour.
Let us ask again that all parents
cooperate with us and insist that pu-
I pils do more home study. The school
day is not long enough for any pupil
to thoroughly prepare all the assign
ments. No pupil can master his sub
jects unless there is a good amount of
