Founder of Gallaudet College
Edward Miner Gallaudet was horn
at Hartford. Conn., in 1837, the son of
T. H. Gallaudet. He was graduated
at Trinity college in 1856 and taught
In his father’s Institution for deaf
mutes in Hartford. 1856 57. In 1857
he organized the Columbia Institution
for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind at
Washington, D. C. He developed from
It the Gallaudet college, of which he
became the first president, serving
from 1864 to 1911. He died in 1917.
A Cruel Prank.
Montgomery, Ala.—The victim of
an apparently heartless practical
joker, Mrs. Arthur H. Mullican al
most died of shock. Informed by an
unknown caller that her husband had
been seriously injured in an accident,
Mrs. Mullican prepared to go to the
hospital to be with him. As she was
about to leave home, a neighbor
brought word that a second call re
ported her husband dead. The woman
collapsed. While a doctor worked over
her, Mullican, uninjured, returned
home. He had no idea who could be
responsible for the cruel prank.

is a new high record for national
banks, exceeding by $1,340,998,000, or
5.39%. the amount reported as of
March 4, 1936. the previous high rec
ord The current figures show also
that deposits increased $8 682 207.000,
ur 16.35%, over the amount reported
as of June 29 1935. the date of the
corresponding cal) a year ago.
