Don’t put up with useless
PAIN
Get rid of it
When functional pains of
menstruation are severe, take
CARDUI. If it doesn’t bene
fit you, consult a physician.
Don’t neglect such pains. They
depress the tone of the nerves,
cause sleeplessness, loss of ap
petite, wear out your resist
ance. Get a bottle of Cardui
and see whether it will help
you, as thousands of women
have said it helped them.
Besides easing certain pains, Car
dui aids in building up the whole
system by helping women to get
more strength from their food.

Early Clearing Houses
Clearing houses seem to have ex
isted in Tokyo as early as 2600
B. C. and in Florence by 800 A. D.
They were perfected at Lyons by
1463. By the Eighteenth century
their use was widespread in Europe.
The first modern clearing houses
were at Edinburgh, 1760, and Lon
don, 1773. They were then estab
lished in Dublin, 1846; New York,
1853; and Paris, 1872.
Have Pet Fireflies
Cubans find enjoyment in pet fire
flies. Lightning bugs there are so
large and bright that they are some
times imprisoned in wicker cages
and used to illuminate cabins in
rural districts. During the day Cu
ban women and children often play
with the insects, just as they would
with other pets. Bathed and fed reg
ularly, these fireflies live for several
months.
To Fool the Fairies
Because fairies are supposed to
run away with male children, su
perstitious parents along the Con
nemara coast of Ireland dress their
boys in red flannel petticoats so the
fairies will think they are girls and
not molest them.
The First Tourists
According to an old travel book, j
the first tourists were Moses, Abra
ham, Jonah, Ulysses, Plato, Strabo
Cleopatra, the queen of Sheba, Mart
Anthony, Julius Caesar, Daedalus,
Herodotus, Aeneas of Troy and Al
exander the Great.
