Friends of Miss Minnie Henry will be
glad to know she has slightly improved
from an illness.

Robert Harlow, Jr., will return today
to Georgia university after spending the
holidays here with his parents.

day morning after attending a three-dav
session of the spring beauty show in
Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Henley had for
their guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. P. S.
Britton and daughter, Martha Ann ; Mr.
and Mrs. D. D. Mayuor, of Chattanooga,
and Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Clemons, of
Rome.

attend an educational convention in At

church met Monday in the home of Mrs.
J. A. League. Mrs. T. J. Espy had
charge of a very interesting program,
after which the hostess, assisted by Mrs.
W. H. Tallent, served lovely refresh
ments.

MRS. FRANK POWELL HONORED
THURSDAY AT SHOWER
Centering the interest of a wide circle
of friends was a linen shower on Thurs
day night complimenting Mrs. Frank
Powell, a recent bride.
Mrs. Roy Housch and Mrs. R. D. Da
vison were joint hostesses, the shower
being at the home of Mrs. Davison in
Summerville.
Lovely arrangements of cut flowers
were used throughout the home. Yellow
and green was the color scheme carried
out in the decorations as well as the re
freshments. About forty guests were in
vited. and after a pleasant social hour,
during which several appropriate con
tests were enjoyed, the honoree was in-

Miss Ova Worsham, of Holland, has
returned home after a two weeks’ visit
with her brother, E. L. Worsham.
Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Worsham left
Friday for Carrollton after spending a
week visiting friends and relatives here.
NANCE-HENDRIX.
Mrs. Maggie J. Nance announces the
engagement of her daughter, Miss
Dollie F. Nance, to Elmer H. Hendrix,
son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Hendrix, of
Summerville. Ga. The wedding will take
place Easter. Miss Nance is the daugh
ter of Mrs. Nance and the late John
Nance. Mr. Hendrix, formerly of Sum
merville, is making his home in Wilm
ington, N. C., where he is employed by
the American Bakeries Co.
P.-T. A. MEETING.
The Summerville Parent-Teacher asso
ciation met Tuesday afternoon at the
school auditorium with the president,
Mrs. James Hawkins, presiding. Rev. J.
C. Jackson led the devotional and gave a
most interesting talk on “Conditions of
Today.”
A musical program was given.
The P.-T. A. is co-operating with the
Lions club in giving free lunches to
school children. They are feeding daily
over 100 children.
Plans are being made to raise funds to
pay for the piano in the high school au
ditorium which the P.-T. A. purchased
recently.
A nominating committee has been ap
pointed by the president to select new
officers for the coming year.
Miss Kathryn Eubank’s room won the
attendance prize.
The April meeting will be held at night.
The program will be presented by Miss
Annie Pitts’ music class. —Publicity
Chairman.
AMERICAN LEGION
ENTERTAINED
The American. Legion auxiliary enter
tained the Legionnaires, their wives and
friends Thursday evening at the Hair
cabin with a lovely birthday party.
Mrs. Charles Harlow, president of the
auxiliary, presented the Legion with a
beautiful white cake with twenty can
dles, this being the twentieth anniversary
of the American Legion.
A color scheme of white and yellow
was carried out in both decorations and
refreshments.
Miss Hugh Bell Dodd, of Decatur, is
spending the spring holidays with rela
tives here and at Menlo.
Legation in Panama is raised to an em
bassy, with Canal defense a factor in
