FOR SIT DOWN STRIKE
ABBEVILLE. Ga. —When a mule be
longing to one H. Mashburn, of this vi
cinty, decided to ape his WPA co-work
ers and do a “sit-down” strike, the out
come was rather disastrous, for Maud
had chosen an abandoned well as the site
for her “sit”. It took all of Mashburn’s
farm hands and a heavy tractor to hoist
the amazed animal out of the hole, but
the laborers were rewarded with a bois
terous bray of thanks.

FOLLOW “RULE OF 3”
For The Relief Os
CONSTIPATION
AND ATTENDANT ILLS SUCH AS
Headache Sour Stomach
Biliousness and Poor Appetite
Our bodies often demand more than
merely a simple laxative for the relief
of such discomforts —they demand the
“triple-action” of the “rule of 3”—(1)
stimulation of the flow and production
of bile, (2) improvement of appetite,
and (3) inducement of mild, gentle
bowel movements.
Famous Sargon Soft Mass Pills pro
vide this “triple-action,” that’s why
you should try them at once if you’re
suffering from headaches, sour stom
ach, biliousness, coated tongue, poor
appetite or sluggishness due to tempo
rary constipation.
Here’s how they will work for you:
they stimulate the flow of bile by ac
tion on bile-producing cells —this bile
emulsifies fats necessary to the diges
tion of such foods; the stomachic prop
erty increases appetite thereby aiding
in creation of additional energy, and
the laxative content induces gentle,
effective bowel movements.
So try Sargon Soft Mass Pills with
out delay. See for yourself how they
relieve these discomforts and make
you feel much better. Sold by McGin
nis Drug Company.

OLD AGE INSURANCE
Congressional approval of a bill amen 1-
ing the social security act caused the so
cial security board to stop accepting
claims for lump-sum old-age insurance
benefits from wage-earners now reaching
(15, according to Joseph R. Murphy, man
ager of the Atlanta field office. Under
the revised program such workers have
an opportunity to get lifetime monthly
benefits. These benefits will become pay
able on Jan. 1, 1940, instead of in 1942,
as scheduled in the original law.
Commenting on these changes, Mr.
Murphy said:
"Termination of the payment of lump
sum benefits, up to now payable to work
ers at age 65, is the only revision of the
old-age insurance program to take effect
simultaneously when the amendments
are signed by the president. The new and
liberalized plan, while discontinuing this
kind of benefits, enables all workers in
covered employment—regardless of whe
ther they reach 65 before or after 1940
—to receive monthly benefits if they
meet a few simple requirementts.
“Our estimates indicate that approxi
mately 485,000 persons past 65 will be
entitled to monthly benefits in 1940, and
that the benefits payable during the year
will exceed $110,000,000. This total in
cludes payments to retired wage-earners,
plus the additional benefits which the
amended plan provides for wives and de
pendent children of retired workers, and
for the widows, orphans, or dependent
parents of workers who die.”
Pointing out that the amended act
makes it possible for the worker to con
tinue building wage credits after age 65.
Mr. Murphy said. “This means that the
worker now continues to build up old
age insurance wage credits regardless of
his age, as long as he remains in employ
ment covered by the program.”
Discontinuance of claims receipts does
<4 apply to death benefits, also made in
the form of lump sums under the original
law. Such payments to the relatives or
estates of wage-earners who die before
1940 will be continued. Monthly sur
vivors’ benefits, provided by the new
law, become effective under it on Jan.
1. 1940. Widows, orphans or dependent
parents of workers who die after that
date may receive such benefits within
the terms of the revised plan.
