Presbyterian Church
The organization services of the
Trion Presbyterian church were
held at the High School building
Sunday afternoon with the Rev.
Taylor Morton, of La Fayette, of
ficiating.
Members of the commission from
Presbytery other than the Rev.
Morton, were the Rev. David Boo
zer, of Menlo; the Rev. Thompson
Davis, of Calhoun; Harry Marks, of
Summerville, and Ben Powell, of
Chickamauga.

ginia Conson attended “Ballet
Russe” at the Memorial auditorium
in Chattanooga Monday night.
Miss Josephine Martin and Mrs.
Chester Elliott entertained with a
miscellaneous shower for Mrs. Geo.
Collette at the school cafeteria
Tuesday evening. Games and con
tests were enjoyed after which
dainty refreshments were served.
The honoree was the recipient of
many useful gifts.
Ben Kysor. of Atlanta, was guest
of Miss Jessie Martin Wednesday.
Mrs. J. L. Baker, spent Thursday
in Atlanta.
Mrs. A. D. Elliott, Mrs. N. B. Mur
phy, Mrs. R. P. Hardeman and Mrs.
T. E. Lawson spent Friday in Chat
tanooga.
Mr. and Mrs. G. L. McCartha en
tertained their club Thursday eve
ning.
Mrs. Henry Thaler entertained a
number of friends Friday afternoon
at her home on Summerville road.
There were two tables of bridge.
Miss Fay Hughes, of Chattanooga,
was week-end guest of her sister,
Mrs. J. D. Hill, and Mr. Hill at the
Plaza apartments.
Miss Florelle Peck spent the week J
end in Chattanooga with her
grandmother, Mrs. W. J. Smith.
Miss Daphine Young and Bobby
Haygood spent the week-end in At
lanta with the former’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Young.
Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Murphy left
today to go to Greenville, S. C., to
attend the textile show. Mrs. Mur
phy will be the guest of Mrs. J. J.
Abbott at Ware Shoals until Satur
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Chamblee
announce the birth of a son March
29 at Riegel hospital, who has been
named Thomas Lowell.

Mrs. S. M. Howard has returned
to her home in Greenville, S. C. She
was accompanied by her daughter,
Mrs. Preston David, who will remain
for a visit.
Misses Kathryn Smith and Alice
Hix spent the week-end in Cleve
land guests of A. R. Strang.
Misses Helen, Pearl and Mary
Welchell were called home by the
death of their father, E. V. Wel
chell, of Chickamauga.
Pete Boney was the week-end
guest of his parents at Ryals, Ga.
Miss Cora McCalman, of Chatta
nooga, spent Tuesday in Trion, the
guest of her brother, E. L. McCal
man, who is seriously ill at Riegel
hospital.
Mrs. Charles E. Bell was the
week-end guest of her daughter,
Mrs. Bill Gresham, and Mr. Gres
ham in Cleveland, Tenn.
Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Hardeman had
as luncheon guests Sunday Rev.
Taylor Morton, of La Fayette; Mr.
and Mrs. Eugene Wyatt, Mr. and
Mrs. Ben Powell and sons, of Chick
amauga, and Dr. Sam Cartlidge, of
Columbia seminary in Decatur.
Friends of Mrs. Mae Smith will be,

Miss Martha -Rackley, of Shorter
college, home, is spending spring |
holidays with her aunt, Mrs. H. C.
Hardin, and Dr. Hardin at the Plaza I

C. H. Vernon and A. J. Hill spent
the past week-end in Ware Shoals,
South Carolina.
Barnard Murphy, Jr., student of
Georgia Tech, Atlanta, will come
Friday to be the week-end guest
of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. B.
Murphy.
G. L. McCartha, Spud Gore, Roy
Fallis and Herman Bankey are in
Greenville, S. C., this week attend
ing the textile show.
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Langston
announce the birth of a daughter
at Riegel hospital on Monday,
March 31, whom they have named
Malinda Jean. Mrs. Langston is the
former Miss Kathryn Gray.
Rev. and Mrs. E. B. Shivers and
family have moved to Rossville
where Rev. Shivers will have the
pastorate of the First Baptist
church. They have many friends
in Trion who regret their leaving.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Pfitzer and
family and Mr. and Mrs. Chester
Elliott were luncheon guests Sun
day of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Pfitzer
in Chattanooga.
McMillan Myers, of Chattanooga,
was guest Friday night of his mo
ther, Mrs. A. McM. Myers.
Miss Ida Mitchell, of Gore, was
week-end guest of Miss Frances
McWilliams on La Fayette road.
Miss Ethels Simmons and Burrell
Simmons spent Saturday in Chat
tanooga with their cousin, Grant
Pursley, who is ill.
Mrs. Edward Beckman, of Chat
tanooga, was guest Monday of Mrs.
Ben Hix, and Mr. Hix on Summer

Misses Betty Martin and Marie
Dixon and Burnell Shivers will be
guests of Rev. and Mrs. E. B. Shi
vers in Rossville this week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hunt have re
turned to their home in Ware

W. J. Harrison is convalescing at
Riegel hospital following a recent
illness.
Mrs. Nella Lee Davis, of Chatta
nooga, has accepted a position with
the local hospital.
Mrs. A. McM. Myers spent the
week-end in Rossville with Dr. and
Mrs. Ralph Hawkins.

The P.-T. A. met Tuesday eve
ning at the school gym. The Rev.
Cliett, of Summerville, made an in
teresting talk. After the program,
a delicious supper was served in
the school’s lunch room.
Bride Honored
Mrs. Harold Bishop and Mrs.
Hugh Watson entertained Satur
day afternoon with a miscellaneous
shower honoring Mrs. Joe Hender
son, formerly Miss Dorothy Kim
bell, at the home of Mrs. Bishop.
The bride received many nice
gifts. A delicious salad course was
served.
Mrs. Dennis Abney and Miss
Dorothy Bryant spent last Monday
with friends and relatives in Chick
amauga.
Mrs. Cavanaugh has returned to
her home in Tampa, Fla., after
spending two weeks with her
daughter, Mrs. Charles Massey, and
Mr. Massey.
The friends of Albert White will
be glad to know that he was able
to be removed to his home Sunday
from the hospital after a very se
rious illness.
Sam Pollock, Jr., of Gadsden,
spent several days last week with
his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
John Pollock.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ragland, of
Trion, visited relatives here Sun
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Tallent and
daughter spent Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. H. L. Smith and family.
Miss Lorene Murray is confined
to her home with the measles.
Rev. and Mrs. Charles Massey
and Mrs. Cavanaugh were dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Pol
lock Wednesday.
Dr. and Mrs. H. G. Doster, of
Rome, were visiting here Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Cox, of
Summerville, were dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Abney Monday
evening.
Mrs. Ola Brock has returned to
j her home here after spending sev
eral weeks in Atlanta.
Miss Peggy Crawford has been ill
with the measles.
Mrs. Harper Edwards and daugh
ter, Carolyn, visited relatives in
j Alabama City, Ala., during the
; week-end.
Several from here attended the
Baptist Sunday school meeting at
Pleasant Grove Sunday. A nice
j meeting was reported.
Mrs. Joe Henderson spent the
week-end in Atlanta with Mr. Hen
derson.
Miss Ruth Kimbell, of Chatta
nooga, spent the week-end with
homefolks.
Mrs. B. F. Shamblin returned
home Sunday after spending five
weeks with her sister in Atlanta. *
Mrs. Bob Kimbell and son,
Franklin, have returned to their
home in Warrington, Fla., after
spending several weeks here.
Brena Joyce Bain has been ill the
past several days.
Mrs. Will Jones, Bob Jones, Misses
Jessie and Pearl Rose spent Mon
day in Chattanooga. Mrs. Bob Jones
returned home with them after
spending several weeks with her
parents.
Many from here attended the fu
neral of Miss Margaret Smith in
Holland Monday.
