Rumford Rules for Successful
Cakes
1. Use standard measuring
equipment and level measure
ments.
2. Ingredients, such as eggs,
milk, butter or shortening, 'should
be at room temperature.
3. Read recipe carefully and
fully understand method of proce
dure.
4. Cream butter or shortening
thoroughly; add sugar gradually
and cream until light and fluffy,
thus insuring fine texture and
greater volume.
5. Add eggs as directed in
recipe.
6. All flour must be sifted once
before measuring; measure and
sift dry ingredients together.
7. Use Rumford Baking Powder
in amount specified in ANY recipe.

9. Use pan of required size.

Basic Cake Recipe
Vz cup shortening 14 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar 1 cup milk
1 egg 1 teaspoon flavor-
2 cups sifted flour ing
2 teaspoons Rum
ford. Baking
Powder
1. Cream shortening, add sugar .
gradually, creaming until light and
fluffy. (
2. Add egg, beating thoroughly.,
3. Sift flour, Rumford Baking ;
Powder .and salt together and add ’
to creamed mixture alternately
with the milk; add flavoring, stir
ring only until smooth.
4. Pour into greased loaf pan
(8" x 8" x 2”), (or two 8-inch layers)
and bake in moderate oven. (359° F.)
45-50 minutes.
5. Cover with your favorite
frosting.

E. E. Chambers, veterinarian, will be
at the City garage, which is located
back of the Courthouse, on Friday,
June 20th, between the hours of 2
and 5 o'clock, for the purpose of
innoculating dogs. If your dog has
not been innoculated, be sure and
have it present at that time.
