VALUE OF SOIL

the recent report of the office of
Production Management that there
is a growing shcjrtage of physicians
and surgeons, which affects both
the Nation’s armed forces and the
civilian population. For this rea-j
son, he pointed out, National Head

has proclaimed a policy of defer
ment from military training of in
dividual medical students “who give
reasonable promise of becoming ac
ceptable medical doctors,” regard
less of whether or not they have
applied for Medical Reserve Corps
commissions.
“On the other hand,” Director
Hawkins said, “the requirements of
the Nation’s armed forces for phy
sicians and surgeons must be filled.
While no practicing doctor whose
services are necessary to his com-'

Medical Reserve Corps commissions
should be encouraged to apply for
them. j
“Doctors and internes eligible,
for these commissions, who are
placed in Class I-A and fail to take
advantage of the opportunity to be|
commissioned, will be inducted for
Selective Service military training.”!
THE SUMMERVILLE NEWS, THURSDAY, JULY 17, 1941
Good Tidings-
(By Thomas D. Lynn)
Leading thought: To whom was
the commission of the gospel given?
Take heed that no man deceive
you. Matt. 24:4.
Beloved believe not every spirit,
but try the spirits whether they are
of God: because many false proph
ets are gone out into the world. 1
John 4:1.
There are many spirits gone out
into the world that are contrary to
the word of God, and these spirits
are in men and women who profess
to be preachers of God but when
you try them with the word of God
they are found to be false teachers.
But there were false prophets also
among the people, even as there
shall be false teachers among you,
who privily shall bring in damna
ble herisies, even denying the Lord
that bought them, and bring upon
them swift destruction. (I will
pause here to show how you deny
the Lord: St. John 1:1 and 14 says,
In the beginning was the word, and
the word was with God, and the
word was God. . . and the word was
made flesh and dwelt among us.
We can see by this that when we
deny the word of God. we deny the
Lord that bought us J And many
shall follow their pernicious ways,
(Tending to injure) by reason of
whom the way of truth shall be evil
spoken of. 2 Peter 3:1.2.
One of these spirits of error world
is: Some believe- that a woman has
as much authority to preach as a
man. But the Bible says, in 1 Cor.
11:3: But I would have you know
that the head of every man is
Christ; and the head of the woman
is the man; and the head of Christ
is God. Then again in Tim. 2:12.
But I suffer not a woman to teach,
nor to usurp authority over the
man. but to be in silence.
Jesus himself chose twelve men
and commissioned them to preach
the gospel. See Matt. 10:1 l5.
Mark 3:14, 19. There was not a
woman in the bunch that Jesus
sent out to preach.
Somebody says, A women carried
the first message, but I tell you now
there is difference in carrying a
message and preaching the gospel.
Jesus told the disciples He sent to
the world, to preach the gospel.
Matt. 16:15.
The message the women carried
was, Go tell my brethren that they
go into Galilee, and there shall they
see me. Matt. 28:10. May God
have pity on the man or woman
that is so blind they can't see the
difference between preaching and
carrying a message.
The Word of God says: Try the
spirits . . . because many false
prophets are gone out into the
world. I John 4:1, 6.
They are of the world; therefore
speak they of the world, and the
world heareth them. (Many shall
follow their perdinicious ways. Pet.
2:2.) We are of God; he that know
eth God heareth us; he that is not
of God heareth not us. Hereby we
know the spirit of truth and the
spirit of error.
He that is of God heareth God’s
words; ye therefore hear them not
because ye are not of God. St. John
8:47. My sheep hear my voice. John
10:27.
If any man think himself to be
a prophet, or spiritual, let him ac
knowledge that the things that I
write unto you are the command
ments of the Lord. 1 Cor. 14:37.
The Church of God is built upon
the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Jesus Christ himself be
ing the chief cornerstone. See Eph.
2:20. Jesus committed the gospel
to men (not women) if any man
will show me one place in the bible
where Jesus or any of the apostles
told a woman to go and preach, I
will take down my sign and admit
| that I am a false teacher.
Take heed that no man deceive
you. For many shall come in my
name, saying, I am Christ; and
shall deceive many. Matt. 24:5.
truth rooted and grounded in your
J<ay God help you to get the
heart, and not be misled by false
teachers. For if the blind shall lead
the blind, both shall fall into the
ditch. Matthew 15:14.
A NOTE FROM
MRS. MARKS
X
Dear Summerville News:
You published in July 10th Sum
merville News a tax report from
liquor, some $1,300,000 in our treas
ury in Atlanta. But there were
some valuable things taken from
our lovely city not reported:
One promising boy, half blinded
and?
One young man killed. One love
ly wife killed; one husband.—A man
suddenly killed and his friends
maimed, crippled physically and
spiritually. Girls and women lost
in a drunken stupor to lives of no
benefit to our community. That’s
not half—or a third or even a tenth
of the devaluation and loss of prop
erty and lives in and around Sum
merville.
Would one of you sell your boy or
your life for a million five hundred
thousand dollars or your girl’s hap
piness for the whole world.

THE DAY THAT MADE
AMERICA
|
“On the Fourth of July, back in
my days,” wrote Dan Beard in the
July issue of BOYS’ LIFE, “there
was scarcely a house that did not
have a great big picture of George
Washington in the window and at
night they had red, white and blue
tissue paper pasted over the window
panes with lighted candle set be
hind them, which looked mighty
pretty. Yes siree, there is some
thing of the spirit of that old Inde
pendence Day which we must re
tain and keep as a sacred thing;
that is, the enthusiastic patriotism
and. the unquestioning belief in our
form of government, with loyalty to
those we elect as executives to run
the governmental machine. We
must not let the old traditions fall
by the wayside! We can cut out
the rough stuff, but not what your
teacher would call the fundamen
tals.”
PEACH PRESERVES
Five pounds peaches, peeled and!
sliced, six cups water, five peach
kernels, and seven cups sugar.
Bring sugar and water to a boil,
add peaches and kernels. Cook un
til fruit is clear when lifted from
syrup. Pack in sterilized container,
seal and process 15 minutes in hot
water bath. Firm peaches should
be used. Clingstone are excellent
for making preserves.
Youth is the nation’s most pre
cious asset. Through 4-H Club
work, the rural boys and girls are
made more precious.
