HOWDY, FOLKS
BY REV. B. L. BETTS
AT OAK HILL—
Next Sunday, June 17, is our
preaching day at Oak Hill, and we
are looking forward to a happy day
at that church. If our folks are
still with us, they’ll be there.
*****
AT SOUTH CAROLINA—
It was real good of our Poplar
Springs friends to come and wor
ship with us at South Carolina last
Sunday as Brother Snead spoke to
us.
Miss Frances was our hostess at
the Vaughan home, pinch-hitting
for Miss Hester, who had gone to
see good old Worsham in Chatta
nooga. Worsham was hurt in an
accident the other day. Since Miss
Frances learned under Miss Hester,
you may depend upon it that every
thing was 100% for all the Vaugh
ans and us.
*****
AT LYERLY—
A nice shower came before the
evening service in Lyerly and pre
pareed us for showers of blessing
in the service. Bhe Busbin-Morri
son quartet, the good congregation
al singing, with Mrother Cochran
as leader, add the assistance given
us by Brothers Wallace Johnson
and James Ray made the pastor to
enjoy the meeting immensely. The
fourth Sunday evening in this
month Rev. L. B. Harrell will preach.
*****
CAT OF THE WEEK—
His name is Bibs Cochran, the
house cat of the F. M. Cochran
family. Bibs thinks he is a full
fledged member of the family. Bibs
is a good Christian ,cat. He loves
people, especially children, and does
what he can to make them happy.
Last Saturday we had dinner in
the Cochran home and the fellow
ship was fine after we had enjoyed
a wonderful dinner. Mrs. Cochran
had prepared for us. Without Bibs
coming to our rescue, however, I
don’t know how we would have
managed the children. He invited
them to watch him do tricks and
held them spellbound. He would
not scratch them even when they
were rough in playing with him.
John Wesley used to talk about the
possibility of a dog heaven. Why
not include a good Christian cat
like Bibs Cochran?
*****
GOD’S COUNTRY—
If you look for the devil’s angels
in Chattooga county, I am sure you
can fin dthem. But I know a lot
of God’s children live in good old
Chattooga, too.
The big heartedness of Oak Hill,
Lyerly, Sotith Carolina and Sum
merville has made the children feel
that this is GOd’s country. The
book book says something about a
cup of cold water given in the name
of a disciple not going without a
reward. But when the best of ev
erything is given so generously, Go"
must have been recognized in a big
way.
*****
SANTA CLAUS—
Miss Cora responded to the re
quest for a complete list of those
who sent Santa Claus to see us, but
so many people did not want the
left hand to know the doings of the
right hand I guess only the Lord,
the folks and I must know about
that big pounding.
Starting a few days back, old
Santa put on his soft slippers and
almost kept us from hearing him
as he brought us Paul Smith and
Vaughn apples, and Arthur Sun
shine Ray milk.
Hearing that Dan Brooks was op
erating a private grocery store, un
incorporated and without ceiling
prices, we made a raid on it and you
ought to have seen what be brought
home to accompany the Guy Pep
pers ham and all those good things
from so many people. Dan’s ham
and that of Guy have certainly
made good eating.

YOUR TlME—
“Spend your time in nothing
which you know must be repented
of; in nothing on which you might
not pray the blessing of God; in
nothing which you could not review
with a quiet conscience on your dy
ing bed; in nothing which you
might not safely and properly be
found doing if death should surprise
you m the act.” Baxter.
God bless you, folks!
CURLY HEAD
A little poem written in honor of
Pvt. John Henry Willingham, who
has been in the army since June 5:
There’s a curly head missing from
a pillow tonight;
Our uncle has found him a battle
to fight;
He was the life of the family—its
pride and joy,
But Uncle Sam knows when he’s
found a good boy;
There’s just one wish you could
grant, if you dare—
Please don’t cut off his curly hair?
—From Frances Carter, Sister.

How women and girls
may get wanted relief
from functional periodic pain
Cardui Is a liquid medicine which
many women say has brought relief
from the cramp-like agony and ner
vous strain of functional periodic
distress. Here’s how it may help:
1 Taken like a tonic,
it should stimulate
appetite, aid diges
tion,* thus help build re
sistance for the “time”
fto come.
<5 Started 3 days be
fore “your time”, it
should help relieve
pain due to purely func
tional periodic causes.

glad you did.
