Last Sunday, March 17 Mr. and
Mrs. Roosevelt Young entertained
their son, Ralph, with a birthday
dinner. Ralph recently returned
after serving two years in England,
France, Germany, Belgium and
Luxembourg. Present were his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Tapp and Mrs. J. A. Young, of La-
Fayette, also Mrs. Dollie Cameron
and two daughters and Jake Tapp,
of LaFayette; Charles Grigsby, Rob

Mrs. Elmer D. Piper and daugh
ter, Nancy Lee, of Chattanooga,
Tenn., and Mr. and Mrs. Winfred
Werner and daughter, Marjorie,
from Wohnton, Pa., were guests of
Rev. and Mrs. E. A. Piper on Sun
day.
The Junior Department of the
Baptist Training Union of the
Menlo Baptist church, of which
Miss Cleo Cook is the superinten
dent, held a delightful social at
the church Monday evening. The
evening began by singing the
chorus, “Christ in Me,” after which
the pastor led in prayer. Then sev
eral games were placed, enjoyed by
all. After the serving of refresh
ments, the evening came to an end
by uniting hands and singing,
Bless me the tie that binds, fol
lowed by the prayer sing, “Come
Into My Heart Lord Jesus.”
Ist Sgt. M. T. Brewer and wife
and daughter, Patty, of Fort Bragg,
N. C., and Mrs. H. M. Walters, of
Fayetteville, N. C., spent the week
end with Sgt. Brewer’s mother, Mrs.
Laura Brewer.
Mrs. J. S. Beasley, of Cartersville,
Ga., is visiting in the home of C.
A. Dodd. She is a sister of the late
Mrs. C. A. Dodd.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott Cleckler spent
Sunday in Rome the guests of Mr.
and Mrs. J. T. Leath.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Murphy and
Miss Olene Watson were luncheon
guests of Mrs. Janie King Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kennedy en
tertained John Kennedy, Jr., who
is back from the South Pacific
with a luncheon Sunday. Twenty
guests enjoyed the hospitality on
this occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Copeland and
Leßoy Tucker were in Chattanooga
Monday on business.
Mr. and Mrs. Fay Maxey were
Saturday night guests of Mr. and
Mrs. J. T. Copeland.
Miss Juanita Crane was Satur
day night guest of Miss Mildred
Hartline.
Eighteen children were present at
a birthday party in honor of Jea
nette Baker at the home of Miss
Lena Baker last Thursday. This
was Jeanette’s 7th birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cook and
family were luncheon guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Silk and Miss Reva
Silk Sunday. The occasion was the
birthdays of Mrs. Silk and e Mr. Silk.
Mr. C. L. Baker is improving
after an operation at Erlanger
hospital in Chattanooga last week.
Mrs. Bryant Park and children
have gone to join Mr. Park in Hon
olulu, Hawaii.
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Wyatt were in
Chattanooga one day last week on
business.
Mrs. T. C. Baker is improving
after an illness.
Miss Margaret Jo McWhorter, of
West Georgia College, is at home
recuperating from measles.
Mrs. Sell McWhorter spent the
week-end at McCall’s hospital at
the bedside of her sister, Mrs. Tom
Cook, who recently underwent an
operation there. She is improving
nicely.
Mrs. Nan Caldwell has returned
from a visit to her granddaughter,
Mrs. Tom Evans, and Mr. Evans in
Rome.
Mrs. J. M. Murphy was luncheon
guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hogg
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Biggers, Mr.
and Mrs. Stonewall Biggers and
Mrs. Fritz Post, of Chattanooga,
were recent visitors in the home of
Misses Georgia and Margie Thom
as. Stonewall has just recently re
turned from several months over
